Job summary

A leading engineering firm in South Carolina is seeking a Principal Engineer/Commissioning to provide technical leadership in challenging projects. This role requires a strong background in engineering principles, with an emphasis on commissioning and startup testing. You'll guide project teams, resolve complex issues, and ensure adherence to deadlines and budgets. The ideal candidate holds a PhD or equivalent with significant industry experience, and must be able to obtain a DOE security clearance.

(E2) is a professional services firm established in 1988 specializing in a full spectrum of engineering services including project engineering and design, federal base operations and infrastructure support services, gas pipeline construction and inspection services, environmental consulting and remediation, and information technology services.

Overview

Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems. Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely and cost-effective results. Give quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, to resolve complex problems.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
  • Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
  • Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles.
  • Evaluate the results of programs and prepares reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.
  • Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
  • Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
  • Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.

  • Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management.
  • Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.

  • Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.

Work Hours: A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.

Qualifications

Education: Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years’ experience. OR A MS with 8+ years’ experience. OR A BS with 10+ years’ experience or more.

Experience/Skills:

  • Personnel shall have technical knowledge of Commissioning/Startup Testing, including experience working in the following technical areas/labor categories:

Conduct of Startup Testing

Design reviews

Procedure development

Test Execution

  • Demonstrated previous experience with the use and implementation of Manual 5E, Startup Test Program, and related directives and standards, or an equivalent Commissioning/Startup program.
  • Demonstrated previous experience in developing, reviewing, approval and presenting Technical Work Documents/Commissioning Test Procedures.
  • Demonstrated personal accountability for facility/project schedules, deadlines, budgets, and the safe performance of work.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
  • Demonstrated a minimum of 1 year of recent testing experience through support of the Department of Energy (DOE) or the commercial nuclear industry.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Area Security Access: : Clearance “Q” required. Subcontractor must have an active eFOCI registration and approved Facility Level Clearance with DOE / NNSA.
