Qualifications

Job Title: Principal Engineer (Architect)
Responsibilities
  1. Define the scope of technical programs and develop effective, high-quality solutions to complex challenges.
  2. Apply technical expertise across multiple fields to resolve complex problems.
  3. Incorporate advanced technical practices and complex features into problem-solving and planning.
  4. Provide leadership and guidance in technical solutions and be recognized as an expert in your area.
  5. Evaluate program results, prepare reports, and recommend improvements.
  6. Stay informed about technological advancements and plan accordingly.
  7. Develop schedules, monitor progress and budgets, and review work quality.
  8. Communicate results and objectives effectively to stakeholders.
  9. Contribute to technical literature through reports and publications.
  10. Enhance professional expertise through leadership in technical societies.
Additional Duties

Provide architectural staff augmentation, including analysis, design, coordination, specifications, and project oversight for facilities.

Work Hours

Up to 40 hours/week, with flexible schedules (e.g., 5/8, 4/10, 9/80). Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Ph.D. in relevant science or engineering with 5+ years' experience, OR
  • MS with 8+ years' experience, OR
  • BS with 10+ years' experience.

Specific for this posting:

  • Bachelor’s in Architecture with 10+ years’ recent experience in nuclear or industrial facility design.
  • Experience in facility layout, code standards (IBC, AISC, ACI, AWS, NFPA, OSHA, CFR, ABA), and tools like STAAD and MicroStation/CAD.
  • Ability to perform site walk-downs and work in construction environments.
Other Qualifications

Must obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance. Active clearance preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Recent DOE facility experience and familiarity with SRS design processes.
  • Experience with security architecture and cost estimating.
