Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional software development experience, with leadership in production SaaS.
• Experience designing, building, and operating complex, business-critical software platforms at scale.
• Advanced experience with modern frontend architecture, preferably React, including complex workflow-oriented applications.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, service architecture, APIs, asynchronous workflows, event-driven systems, background processing, and failure handling.
• Strong experience with relational and non-relational data architecture, schema design, migrations, integrity, and performance optimization.
• Experience designing enterprise integrations involving APIs, identity providers, data platforms, webhooks, file exchange, or event-based interfaces.
• Strong cloud-native architecture experience, preferably AWS, including containers, serverless services, networking, storage, compute, and deployment patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, observability, and production operability.
• Strong understanding of application and platform security, authentication, authorization, tenant isolation, secrets management, and data protection.
• Experience designing systems for scalability, resilience, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Demonstrated ability to modernize mature platforms while continuing to deliver customer-facing capabilities.
• Ability to lead architecture and implementation across multiple teams without relying on formal authority.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the architecture of our multi-tenant SaaS platform across frontend applications, backend services, data systems, integrations, media pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.
• Lead technical strategy and design for high-risk, ambiguous, and cross-cutting product and platform initiatives.
• Translate business strategy, product requirements, and customer needs into scalable technical solutions and executable implementation plans.
• Remain hands-on by prototyping critical paths, contributing production code, reviewing high-impact changes, and solving complex engineering problems.
• Establish architectural principles, service boundaries, integration patterns, data contracts, and engineering standards.
• Modernize established platform components while maintaining business continuity and customer commitments.
• Identify and address systemic risks related to scalability, performance, reliability, availability, security, privacy, and maintainability.
• Guide architecture across video creation, rendering, personalization, media processing, analytics, asset management, and distribution.
• Shape the use of generative AI, LLMs, synthetic media, and AI-assisted engineering tools across the product and development lifecycle.
• Partner with Product, UX, Engineering leadership, DevOps, QA, and Security to balance customer value, delivery speed, and long-term technical health.
• Lead architecture reviews, technical discovery, design reviews, and cross-team alignment.
• Create engineering leverage through reusable services, frameworks, automation, developer tooling, and shared standards.
• Mentor engineers and raise the quality of technical decision-making through code reviews, design feedback, and technical guidance.
• Improve observability, incident response, capacity planning, root-cause analysis, and overall operational resilience.
• Communicate technical strategy, tradeoffs, risks, and architectural decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to provide hands‑on technical leadership across SundaySky's product and platform.

This is a senior individual‑contributor role for an engineer who can translate ambiguous business and product goals into durable architecture, lead complex cross‑platform initiatives, and improve how engineering teams design and deliver software.

The ideal candidate combines deep full‑stack and distributed‑systems expertise with strong product judgment and the ability to influence through technical credibility. You will remain close to the code while shaping technical direction across video creation, personalization, rendering, data, AI, distribution, and shared platform capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the architecture of our multi‑tenant SaaS platform across frontend applications, backend services, data systems, integrations, media pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.

Base salary: $225,000-$250,000 annually
