Job summary

SupplyHouse.com is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer to lead architectural decisions for scalable backend services. You will partner with product and business teams to shape technical vision and deliver robust systems.

The role requires 10+ years of experience in enterprise software, proficiency in Java/Spring Boot, microservices, and modern tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins), plus strong leadership and collaboration skills. Remote from India with full-time hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• 10+ years of enterprise software development experience.
• Advanced proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices Architecture.
• Experience with MySQL, Oracle, Redis, and modern frontend (React).
• Strong Linux/UNIX, Nginx, Apache, and ELK stack knowledge.
• Ability to architect and deliver complex backend systems and mentor teams.

Through an Employer of Record (EOR), we are looking for a new Principal Backend Engineer in India tojoin our growing IT Team.This individual will report to our Sr. Director of IT,serveas a technical leader and system architect, guiding the design and delivery of scalable, reliable, and high-performance solutions across our e-commerce and internal platforms.You’llpartner closely with senior leaders to define the long-term engineering vision and lead initiatives that strengthen system performance, scalability, and reliability. **Role Type:** Full-Time

Location: Remote from India

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 4:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time / 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Indian Standard Time to ensure effective collaboration

Base Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 USD per year

Responsibilities** : **

• Technical Strategy & Architecture
  • Architect end-to-end software solutions usingmodern frameworksanddesign patternsaligned with scalability, performance, and maintainability goals.
  • Leadsystem designdiscussions for high-traffic applications, ensuring robust architecture for business-critical services.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement architectural improvements to enhance scalability, observability, and resilience.
  • Define and upholdbest practicesfor code quality, security, accessibility, and data privacy compliance.
• Project Leadership
  • Lead complex, cross-functional projects from concept to delivery, aligning engineering solutions with business needs.
  • Collaborate with product and business teams to definetechnical visionand ensure cohesive project execution.
  • Oversee the technical implementation of new features and services, ensuring efficient use of system resources and infrastructure.
• System Engineering & Optimization
  • Build andmaintaindistributed systems usingSpring Boot microservices,Docker, andKubernetes.
  • Design andoptimizehigh-performance databases usingMySQLandOracle,leveragingindexingand tuning for efficiency.
  • Implement and manageRedisfor caching,Eureka Serverfor service registration, andtheELKStackfor monitoring and analytics.
  • ConfigureNginxandApachefor load balancing and high availability across production systems.
• DevOps & Reliability Engineering
  • Own and maintainCI/CD pipelinesusingJenkinsfor automated builds, testing, and deployments.
  • Ensure system health and stability through proactivemonitoring,logging, andalertingstrategies.
  • Drive improvements indeployment automation,infrastructure ascode, andsite reliability practices.
• Leadership & Collaboration
  • Act as atechnical advisorandmentor, helping develop engineers’ skills in architecture, design, and problem-solving.
  • Conduct code and design reviews tomaintainengineering excellence.
  • Collaborate effectively withsenior leadershipandcross-departmental stakeholdersto influence company-wide technical initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and accountability across the engineering organization.

Requirements** : **

• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, orrelatedfield.
• 10+ years of experience in enterprise-level software development.
• Advancedproficiencyin:

• Proven ability to architect and deliver complex backend systems and mentor technical teams.
• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and align multiple teams toward shared goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using AI platforms to increase productivity (ex: Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.)
