Westinghouse Electric Company in Cranberry Township, PA, is seeking a Principal Linux Systems Engineer to lead Linux platform administration, hardware qualification, and delivery for our nuclear-related products and services. The role is hybrid, onsite a few days per week with occasional travel.

You will report to the Manager Software Systems Technology, Nuclear Fuel Technology Engineering, and collaborate with engineering teams to deploy applications, apply security updates, and resolve system

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, IS, Computer Engineering, or related field
• Linux expertise: 6+ years Linux administration (SUSE preferred)
• Able to independently analyze and solve a variety of system problems
• Practical experience with Networking/NFS, RAID, BIOS/UEFI, iLO, authentication methods, patching, and Linux firewall

About the role:

As a Principal Linux Systems Engineer you will perform complex Linux systems administration, hardware qualification and delivery, and provide technical leadership in design, development, training, performance, and delivery of our products and services.

You will report to the Manager Software Systems Technology, Nuclear Fuel Technology Engineering and be located at Cranberry Township, PA. The position is hybrid, you will be onsite a few days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform system administration of corporate Engineering Linux platforms, as well as delivery and hardware maintenance of qualified Linux platforms to contracted nuclear utility customers.
• Installation and configuration of the base operating system, participating in the design and deployment of security updates, coordination of customer site delivery and maintenance visits, and ongoing support of Linux systems in the corporate and customer environments.
• You will collaborate with engineering users to deploy applications and resolve issues.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in the following disciplines: Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or another related field
• Linux Expertise:
  • 6+ years of Linux Administration experience (preferable SUSE)
  • Have a mindset for independently identifying, analyzing, and efficiently solving variety of system related problems
  • Practical experience with:
    • Networking and Network File Systems (NFS)
    • Disk [RAID] configuration
    • BIOS/UEFI and iLO
    • Multiple user authentication methods and access restriction
    • System patchingo
    • Linux firewall experience
    • Exhibit an enthusiasm for producing work that follow quality standards and follows defined procedures
• Business Travel Requirements:
  • Travel to domestic and international customer sites 1-2 times per month (1 to 2 full weeks) to perform technical work
  • 2 weeks of travel each month is common
  • Required periodic international travel includes:
    • China
    • Western and Eastern Europe
    • South Africa
    • Brazil
    • Although we generally avoid it, we sometimes require travel during US holidays or urgent (short notice) travel.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $103,200 to $129,000 per year.
