Job Description
We’re seeking a Principal Engineer to join a technology team embedded with our Custom Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) business. In this position, you will work closely with Functional leads, business partners, and developers in the Technology team to create and deliver on our Financial Systems roadmaps. We expect you to be fluent in data and application integration. You’ll be part of a dynamic, collaborative team that values your input and has a sound foundation in technology and appreciation of investment processes. We pair program and follow Test Driven Development. The ideal candidate is passionate about speed, quality, automation, and continuous delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Thought leader in large-scale distributed systems, microservices, web applications, databases, AWS, and related technologies.
- Hands‑on builder capable of executing and striving for efficiency without compromising quality; ready to dive in where needed.
- Create and review detailed solution designs, validating that the holistic solution aligns with design principles and client business outcomes.
- Plan, lead, and run solution design workshops to assess business, strategic, and operational requirements.
- Define design principles, assess different solution options in context of business requirements, and provide recommendations.
- Provide day-to-day support and troubleshooting of user and application problems within a specific business area.
- Partner with architects across the OneTech team to define, design, and implement the long‑term architecture for the portfolio.
- Promote DevOps and Agile delivery principles; reduce technical debt while improving speed and quality of delivery.
- Perform QA testing including unit, system, integration, and regression testing; support development of automated test scripts.
- Participate in new product reviews, tests, pilots; assist with software selection.
- Document system functions and cross‑functional processes.
- Provide consulting support on processes and systems issues.
- Analyze requirements, document, and review solution design documents.
- Identify operational inefficiencies, conflicting business practices, and integration issues; apply consulting skills to arrive at optimal solutions.
- Integrate project activities with QA and software development teams to ensure successful implementation.
- Foster productive relationships with internal teams and business partners.
- Support training and education of business partners regarding new applications, business processes, and system support processes.
- Develop test strategy and author test plans for application releases, enhancements, and patches.
Work Experience & Knowledge
- 8‑10 years of application development, engineering, implementing, and supporting enterprise solutions.
- Advanced experience in Python, Git, Bitbucket Pipelines.
- AWS experience (Lambda, S3, EKS, SQS).
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or Helm.
- Experience with scheduler technologies such as Autosys, Airflow, etc.
- Experience with third‑party libraries, APIs, and ESB/EDI technologies (MuleSoft, etc.).
- Superior verbal and written communication, presentation, client service, and technical writing skills.
- Demonstrated experience through all phases of the technology life cycle, including project planning, analysis, design, architecture, build/configuration, testing, and operational transition.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; high motivation, work ethic, and self‑starting attitude.
- Product agnostic and willing to learn, implement, and maintain other financial applications as necessary.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to present appropriate materials.
- Understanding of finance and accounting business processes to bridge requirements and technical solutions (plus).
- Ability to work in a global, multicultural environment.
- Structured, focused approach with attention to detail.
- Proactive and capable of working with little or no supervision.
