Job summary

NextGenEnergyJobs seeks a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to own and advance the software stack for our rugged ocean-going embedded products. You will collaborate with electrical engineers from bring-up to field deployment and guide a growing team in a hardware-centric, real-time environment.

You will design and maintain architectures, drive no_std Rust firmware components, and define testing, CI/CD, and release processes to ensure long-term reliability in harsh marine conditions.

Qualifications

• ;10+ years embedded production software experience.
• ;Strong in Rust or C/C++, no_std is a strong plus.
• ;Experience building embedded Linux distros with Yocto or Buildroot.
• ;Ownership of architecture from bring-up to deployment.
• ;Fluency with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet and signal debugging.
• ;Experience designing for real-time, power-constrained systems.
• ;Experience with OTA update mechanisms.
• ;Strong communication across technical and non-technical teams.
• ;Experience with marine/offshore/remote harsh environments.
• ;Industry experience in mission-critical or safety-critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the software for our in-house embedded products and set technical direction.
• Mentor other embedded engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Review designs and code across the team for correctness and reliability.
• Work with EE, mechanical, ops and leadership to align on architecture.
• Shape OTA and fleet update strategy for distributed hardware.
• Set testing and CI/CD standards for embedded code.
