THE OPPORTUNITY
Silvus is seeking a full-time Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join our Engineering Group, reporting to the Senior Engineering Director for Irvine. The successful individual in this role will participate in the development of Silvus’ MANET radios and advanced research projects. This is an opportunity to work on all aspects of the system including device drivers, networking functions and services, encryption, and security features.

The position is located at Silvus headquarters in the heart of vibrant West Los Angeles, CA and is on a hybrid schedule, a minimum of 3 days onsite per week is expected. On-site days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implementation of the software portion of MAC (Medium Access Control) and mobile ad-hoc networking routing protocols.
  2. Network management software and web interface implementation.
  3. Implementation of different security protocols and encryption algorithms.
  4. Audio streaming and push-to-talk voice application implementation.
  5. Analyzing and improving product security and robustness to meet certain regulatory requirements such as NIST FIPS 140-3 and NIAP Common Criteria.
  6. Implementation of testing software for product performance and reliability testing.
  7. Device driver and board support package development and maintenance for both ARM and RISC-V based systems.
  8. Linux system customization and scripting.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant engineering fields.
  2. 8+ years of relevant embedded system software development experience.
  3. Expertise in C programming and experience in Linux kernel driver development.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Knowledge of and experience with different security protocols and encryption algorithms such as suite of CNSA algorithms.
  2. Demonstrated experience with socket programming and various Internet/Ethernet protocols.
  3. Understanding of MAC and Networking layer of a communication system.
  4. Experience in AMD UltraScale+ MPSoC and Microchip Polarfire SoC BSP support package development.
  5. Deep understanding of Internet Protocol Security (IPsec), network protocols, data authentication and encryption.
  6. Linux Interrupt Service Routine development.

COMPENSATION
The pay range is NOT a guarantee. It is based on market research and peer data, and will vary depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

CA Pay Range
$165,000 - $215,000 USD
