Job summary

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. seeks an experienced industrial electrical professional for the reliable operation of large-scale electrical equipment across North American facilities.

The role reports to the Manager of Electrical Engineering at the Allentown Global Headquarters and is based in the United States with preference for Baton Rouge, LA or Allentown, PA. The candidate will provide technical assistance on HV distribution equipment, coordinate vendor repairs, and contribute to plant

Qualifications

  • Experience in operations and maintenance of large industrial plants is required.
  • Proficiency in programming and bringing together event information from protective relays is required.
  • Main vendors in use are SEL and GE Multilin; SKM Power Tools is helpful.
  • Experience with ETAP will be considered.
  • Proficiency in crafting safe work permits and HV Lock-out/Tag-out orders is required.
  • Experience specifying, reviewing, and approving HV substation equipment, transformers, HV/LV motors and generators, MCCs, VFDs, station batteries, and UPS systems is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to field personnel on high voltage distribution equipment and motors/generators.
  • Respond to electrical equipment problems in company facilities and coordinate vendor repairs.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement maintenance strategies to improve plant reliability.
  • Review and approve engineering documents on plant upgrade projects.
  • Program protective relays with settings from system analysis software.
  • Ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental standards.

This position will support the reliable operations of our Industrial Electrical Equipment in our Company-owned and operated facilities in North America.

This key role will report to our Manager of Electrical Engineering at our Global Headquarters in Allentown, PA.

This is a residence-based position within the United States. While candidates may be located anywhere within the assigned territory, our preference is to hire someone based in Baton Rouge, LA or Allentown, PA.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to field personnel in the areas of high voltage distribution equipment and high voltage motors/generators.
  • Respond and provide technical assistance to electrical equipment problems within the company-owned facilities.
  • Direct and coordinate vendor shop repairs on high voltage motors and other equipment for quality assurance.
  • Issue repair reports at the conclusion of critical jobs for accurate historical documentation.
  • Identify engineered solutions to recurring electrical issues.
  • Improve plant/equipment reliability through historical trending and improved maintenance procedures.
  • Lead and participate in root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Execute equipment maintenance strategies (predictive and preventive).
  • Ensure adherence to internal and national standards when specifying and maintaining equipment.
  • Review and approve engineering documents on plant upgrade projects.
  • Support training, coaching, and mentoring of electrical field technicians and operations staff in the safe operation and preventative maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
  • 100 % compliance with Safety and Environmental standards.
  • Program protective relays with settings developed in systems analysis software.
Qualifications
  • Experience in operations and maintenance of large industrial plants is required.
  • Proficiency in programming and bringing together event information from protective relays is required.
  • Main vendors in use are SEL and GE Multilin
  • Proven understanding of SKM Power Tools for Windows engineering software is helpful.
  • Experience in other software modeling packages such as ETAP will be considered.
  • Proficiency in crafting safe work permits and HV Lock-out/Tag-out orders is required.
  • Experience specifying, reviewing, and approving HV substation equipment, transformers, HV and LV motors and Generators, Motor control centers, Variable frequency drives, Station Battery, and UPS systems is helpful.
  • Flexibility and ability to travel in North America up to 25%.
Minimum Hiring Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent working experience
  • 6 to 8 years of experience as a qualified electrical worker in an industrial facility.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship (e.g. temporary work visa or work permit).
