About the Role

A growing engineering consultancy is seeking an Associate Principal Electrical Engineer to join its Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) group. This is a senior-level role that combines deep technical expertise with leadership and mentoring responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer with extensive experience in complex electrical design and analysis for BESS or renewable energy systems. This position offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to shape engineering standards and best practices within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert for complex BESS projects.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership to establish and enforce electrical engineering standards across the department.
  • Lead QA/QC efforts and review detailed electrical and physical designs for BESS.
  • Produce and review technical design documents, including single line diagrams, general arrangements, connection details, conduit plans, and lighting/grounding layouts.
  • Conduct and review power system studies such as equipment sizing, short circuit, arc flash, harmonic analysis, and grounding calculations.
  • Prepare and review specifications for materials, equipment, and construction.
  • Provide engineering oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Conduct field inspections and support construction supervision as needed.
  • Stay current with applicable codes and standards and ensure compliance.
  • Support business development through proposals, cost estimates, and technical studies.
  • Promote and ensure adherence to safety guidelines and training requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (power systems focus preferred).
  • 7+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP or PowerFactory, CYMCAP, CDEGS/WinIGS, Visual, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with 3D BIM design software.
  • Proven team leadership experience (5–10 people).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with BESS design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with safety training and job site supervision.
