Principal Electrical Engineer - Advanced

The Principal Embedded Systems Engineer will lead the design and testing of embedded systems, identify trends, and guide Milwaukee Tool’s technical direction. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, firmware, product development, and reliability engineers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and leading a team of electrical engineers in designing, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting embedded electronics.
  • Developing concepts, schematics, test plans, procedures, and test cases for new embedded systems and subsystems.
  • Defining and driving technical roadmaps, selecting critical electronic components, and creating robust design architectures.
  • Mentoring team members in engineering best practices, including task management, root cause analysis, circuit/PCB design, and manufacturing.
  • Communicating effectively across the organization to motivate and inform diverse teams.
  • Managing project schedules and work breakdown structures.
  • Driving project urgency and accountability to meet organizational metrics.
  • Creating resource plans and project roadmaps to ensure team success.
  • Evaluating emerging technologies for potential integration with Milwaukee Tool products.
  • Leading investigations into system requirements, architecture, and reusability strategies.
  • Escalating business risks and opportunities to senior leadership.

Tools and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years in embedded systems.
  • 3+ years in team leadership or project management.
  • Understanding of digital circuits and firmware-electronics interaction.
  • Experience with analog/digital system tradeoffs, signal integrity, noise analysis, and design considerations.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture, PCB layout, SPICE, and industry best practices.
  • Expertise in C programming, microcontroller peripherals, and development tools.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.

Preferred tools and qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of additional programming languages such as Python or C++.
