Job summary

ESI Motion in Simi Valley is seeking an experienced candidate to lead the development and design of embedded hardware platforms for Space Orbital and Aerospace projects. Responsibilities include overseeing micro-controller operated electronics, guiding design activities, and leading project teams.

The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience in electronics design, proficiency in embedded systems software, and a degree in Electrical Engineering. A sign-on bonus is available, based on qualifications.

Job description

Looking for a talented and motivated individual to lead development, design, system integration and maintenance of our embedded hardware platforms for Space Orbital Missions, Lunar Missions, Aerospace and Defense projects. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus! Bonus amount will be based on experience, qualifications, and role requirements. Payout terms and eligibility will be discussed during the offer process.

Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and oversee micro-controller operated digital and analog electronics in accordance with established company methodologies and processes
  • Lead root cause corrective actions tasks, as assigned
  • Lead recommendation and implementation of hardware solutions and improved practices
  • Guide engineering, packaging and board layout activities
  • Lead feedback discussions on hardware requirements related to design, time, feasibility, etc.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to other team members to help develop complete systems (hardware and software)
  • Perform product design and development activities with a high degree of independence and creativity. Be responsible from start to finish of new product development including product definition, design, parts selection and qualification.
  • Formulate product designs using scientific analysis and mathematical models.
  • Generate engineering documentation e.g. specification, schematics, layouts, BOM and qualification reports
  • Interface with customers to determine and define requirements
  • Document test plans, test results, lead and design test stand equipment
  • Coordinate and execute hardware releases, version upgrades, and custom interfaces according to company quality assurance practices
  • Create and review design and product information including manuals and brochures for technical accuracy
  • Consult with other engineering staff to evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system designs;
  • Lead teams as specialist in product definition and review activities
  • Planning, managing and execution of multiple activities while maintaining quality requirements, budget costs and schedule milestones
  • Lead and mentor other team members
Candidate should be able to demonstrate expertise in:
  • Advanced application of electrical and software engineering concepts
  • Advanced design, analysis and testing of micro-controller operated digital and analog electronics
  • Embedded systems software design
  • IGBTs, Mosfets, and other power drivers and current sensors
  • Release management and document control
  • Analog and digital circuits
  • A/D and D/A converters
  • Schematic Capture tool
  • Digital Signal processing, control systems and digital filters
  • TCP/IP, C+/C++ knowledge a plus
  • Sensorless motor control knowledge a plus
  • Project management methodologies knowledge a plus
In addition, the ideal candidate will have:
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Worst Case Circuit Analysis capability
  • A hands‑on, "get it done" attitude
  • Strong communication and leadership ability
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines
  • Creativity and self‑motivation to solve unique and complex technical problems

  • Knowledge of Microsoft products including Windows 7, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills
  • 15+ years of experience in electronics design
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering
