Job summary

Rocket Lab USA, based in Long Beach, CA, is seeking a Principal Electric Propulsion Engineer to own system-level propulsion development for civil, commercial, and defense programs. You will lead end-to-end propulsion efforts, perform modelling and design, and guide a team through qualification and production.

Candidates should have 12+ years in propulsion, a bachelor’s in engineering, and the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in propulsion system development
• Bachelor's degree in engineering (aerospace, mechanical, mechatronics, or related)
• Expertise in propulsion system modelling, static and transient analysis, and model validation using test data (Amesim, EcosimPro, Simulink, or Simscape)
• Experience with end-to-end development process including requirements, design, qualification, production, and testing
• Strong grasp of Systems Engineering V model and risk-based decision making
• US citizenship is required, ability to obtain security clearance

Responsibilities

• Own development of new or existing propulsion products or systems from concept to production
• Perform performance calculations, modelling, analysis, and system design
• Gather and manage requirements for propulsion projects
• Provide systems engineering leadership within the team
• Plan tests, setup instrumentation, execute tests, and analyze data
• Mentor engineers and drive process excellence within the team
