Job summary

Worley is seeking a Principal Document Controller – Field Services in College Station, TX, to lead the document control function on large-scale projects. Principal Document Controller – Field Services
Play an integral role in managing the flow, integrity, and governance of project information across large, complex construction and field services projects. As a Principal Document Controller – Field Services, you will serve as the subject matter expert responsible for overseeing document control activities, ensuring critical project documentation is accurately managed, controlled, distributed, and archived throughout the project lifecycle.

This highly visible role sits at the center of project delivery, supporting engineering, procurement, construction, quality, project controls, suppliers, contractors, and customer stakeholders. Your expertise will help ensure that project teams have access to accurate and timely information while maintaining compliance with customer requirements, contractual obligations, and company standards. Through leadership, technical expertise, and operational excellence, you will contribute directly to project execution, customer satisfaction, and successful project outcomes.


The Principal Document Controller – Field Services is responsible for leading the document control function on large or complex projects while serving as the primary authority on document management systems, processes, and project documentation requirements. You will ensure that all project documentation is accurately logged, managed, distributed, and maintained within the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) while preserving complete project records throughout the life of the project.


Acting as both a technical specialist and project lead, you will oversee document control activities, establish effective document management practices, and provide guidance to project teams and less experienced document control personnel. You may also serve as a system specialist, supporting the enhancement and optimization of document control tools, workflows, and reporting processes.
Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will manage complex document control challenges, maintain database integrity, and ensure that project information remains complete, accurate, compliant, and readily accessible to support project execution.


You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the document control function on large-scale, complex field services, construction, maintenance, and capital projects.

  • Serving as the primary document control subject matter expert for project teams, customer stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors.

  • Managing project documentation within the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).

  • Ensuring all project documentation, drawings, specifications, procedures, vendor data, and records are accurately logged, maintained, and controlled.

  • Establishing and maintaining document control processes that support project execution and compliance requirements

  • Maintaining comprehensive document databases that capture complete revision histories, metadata, transmittals, and distribution records throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Managing complex document workflows between engineering, procurement, construction, quality, project controls, suppliers, contractors, and customer organizations.

  • Ensuring all project documentation is issued, received, reviewed, and archived in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements.

  • Monitoring document progress and proactively identifying issues that could impact project schedules, deliverables, or information flow.

  • Preparing and maintaining document registers, transmittals, tracking logs, performance metrics, and document status reports.

  • Supporting project turnover and closeout activities through the development and verification of final documentation packages.

  • Conducting document audits and quality reviews to ensure database integrity, accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to document controllers and project personnel regarding document management practices and systems.

  • Troubleshooting complex document control system issues and supporting system enhancements and process improvements.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Technical school diploma or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

  • Typically 7+ years of experience in document control, records management, project administration, engineering support, or related project services functions.

  • Demonstrated experience managing document control activities on large-scale industrial, construction, engineering, maintenance, manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, chemicals, or resources projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS), records management principles, and document lifecycle management.

  • Proven experience leading document control functions on complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and large volumes of technical documentation.

  • Strong understanding of drawing control, revision management, metadata requirements, transmittal processes, records retention, and project closeout documentation.

  • Experience serving as a document control lead, technical specialist, or subject matter expert within a project environment.

  • Ability to independently manage highly complex document control assignments and recommend solutions to challenging technical issues.
