Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has openings for Principal Dimensional Manufacturing Engineer/Sr. Principal Dimensional Manufacturing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting our Dimensional Engineering Team (DET). The position requires on-site support located in Melbourne, FL and cannot be performed remotely due to the nature of the role.
The selected candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Manufacturing Engineering Team working in a collaborative environment while promoting a positive and proactive teamwork environment.
Dimensional Manufacturing Engineering job duties involve the following:
Provide guidance to Engineering regarding design concepts to ensure the best manufacturing technique is being used to meet the Engineering design.
Participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible and reduce build times and program costs during assembly.
Identify manufacturing processes and specialty tooling requirements to improve efficiency, quality, and ergonomics in production operations.
Research, develop, provide process training as required, contribute toward creation of technical process documentation, and produce supporting material for technical course instructions.
Define sequence of operations for product builds, investigate and initiate corrective actions and improvements that involve non-conforming product and identify improvement opportunities in areas that require producibility and affordability initiatives.
Provide liaison support for Engineering definition to influence low production costs for integrated assembly related to electrical, hydraulics, fuels, fluids and propulsion systems.
Support site safety initiatives related to manufacturing processes.
Interface/communicate with multiple levels of leadership, clients, and vendors.
Support the Dimensional Engineering Team with the development, deployment, and enforcement of a program’s “dimensional architecture,” which is a curated selection of processes, tools, and dimensional frameworks (tolerancing strategies) that are custom-tailored to specific functional requirements and business goals.
Upon request, the Manufacturing Dimensional Engineer shall be responsible for supporting advanced Manufacturing Building Block (test article) activities to analyze and validate metrology data, participate in problem resolution, and confirm that proposed dimensional control strategies are meeting program objectives.
Members of the DET shall also provide relevant course instruction across a multitude of technical disciplines. They may be tasked with producing various forms of Dimensional Engineering best-practice documentation to flow out to the Design and Manufacturing communities.
Lead the development of technical process documentation.
Lead coordination efforts with multiple levels of leadership, clients, and vendors.
Develop and administer technical course instruction to students of varying technical backgrounds.
Basic Qualifications Principal Dimensional Manufacturing Engineer:
Bachelor’s Degree with 4 years of related engineering experience such as dimensional engineering, electrical, mechanical, coatings, and/or production manufacturing OR Master’s Degree with 3 years of related engineering experience.
Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position.
Ability to work any shift or extended work week as business need requires.
Familiarity with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 (-2018 preferred, -2009 / -1994 acceptable)
Familiarity with 3D Model Based Definition per ASME Y14.41 (-2019 preferred, -2012 acceptable); experienced with reviewing / interrogating 3D model views.
Familiarity with routine tolerance analysis problems, 1D / 2D tolerance stackup analysis.
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to work for extended periods of time at a workstation on a computer or similar device for up to 10 hours / duration of shift. Occasional extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling.
Ability to be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Basic Qualifications Senior Principal Dimensional Manufacturing Engineer:
Bachelor’s Degree with 8 years of related engineering experience, Master’s Degree with 6 years of related engineering experience, or PhD with 4 years of related engineering experience.
Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position.
Ability to work any shift or extended work week as business need requires.
Background in GD&T per ASME Y14.5 (-2018 preferred, -2009 / -1994 acceptable)

Preferred Qualifications:
STEM Degree (Science, Technical, Engineering or Mathematical).
Active Secret or Top-Secret clearance.
Experienced with authoring 3D Model Based Definition per ASME Y14.41 (-2019 preferred, -2012 acceptable).
Familiarity with 3D model-based variation analysis (3DCS preferred, Vis-VSA / NX-VSA acceptable).
Familiarity with statistical process qualification for machinery, equipment, and gages.
Demonstrated ability to lead / mentor a small team of individual contributors.
Experience and process knowledge in aerospace manufacturing.
Experience working hands-on in a production assembly line environment.
ASME Y14.5 GDTP 2009 Senior-Certification.
Experience with Siemens Teamcenter CPLM and NX.
Proficiency in Dimensional Control Systems 3DCS or Siemens Vis-VSA and/or Variation Analysis software.
Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, 5S knowledge.
Experience with Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance, or Machining/Fabrication Processes.
Experience creating Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) Work Instructions.
System Application and Production (SAP) knowledge.
Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment.

Salary Range: $86,600 - $130,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
