This role requires a deep understanding of digital twin principles, strong engineering fundamentals, advanced data analytics capabilities, and a keen awareness of the unique safety and regulatory requirements of the nuclear industry. This role reports into the VP, Software Engineering.

Responsibilities:

Digital Twin Strategy & Architecture:

  • Lead the architectural design and development of digital twin solutions for nuclear power plant systems, components, and processes.
  • Define technical requirements, select appropriate platforms and tools, and establish best practices for digital twin implementation.
  • Contribute to the long-term digital transformation strategy of the company, specifically in the realm of asset digitalization.

Modeling, Simulation & Analytics:

  • Develop high-fidelity physics-based and data-driven models of nuclear systems (e.g., thermal-hydraulics, structural mechanics, electrical systems).
  • Integrate real-time operational data (IoT, sensor data) from plant systems into digital twin models.
  • Implement advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI algorithms for predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, performance optimization, and scenario simulation.
  • Perform "what-if" analyses to support operational decisions, design modifications, and safety assessments.
  • Oversee the integration of data from various sources, including operational technology (OT) systems, IT systems, historical databases, and engineering models.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and secure exchange across integrated platforms.
  • Develop interfaces and APIs to enable seamless interaction between the digital twin and other enterprise systems.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in digital twin technologies, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Lead technical reviews, provide critical analysis, and ensure the technical integrity of digital twin solutions.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in digital twins, AI, IoT, and advanced analytics.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety Integration:

  • Ensure that digital twin solutions are developed and implemented in compliance with nuclear regulatory requirements (e.g., NRC guidelines) and industry standards.
  • Integrate safety analysis principles and risk assessment methodologies into digital twin applications to enhance operational safety and reliability.
  • Support regulatory interactions and provide technical justifications for digital twin applications.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, IT, and regulatory affairs teams to understand their needs and deliver impactful digital twin solutions.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts and analytical findings clearly to diverse audiences.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in engineering, simulation, data analytics, or digital transformation, with a significant focus on digital twin development and implementation.
  • Proven experience in the nuclear energy industry or another highly regulated, safety-critical industrial sector (e.g., aerospace, oil & gas).
  • Strong expertise in developing physics-based models and integrating them with real-time operational data.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for data science and simulation (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++).
  • Experience with industrial IoT platforms, SCADA systems, and data historians.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor other engineers.

Skills:

  • Advanced Simulation & Modeling (e.g., finite element analysis, CFD, system dynamics)
  • Data Analytics & Machine Learning (e.g., predictive modeling, anomaly detection)
  • Real-time Data Integration (IoT, SCADA)
  • Strong understanding of control systems and instrumentation
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities
  • Competitive compensation packages
  • 401k with company match
  • Annual company retreats

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way.
