Job description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer in the United States.

In this role, you will drive the strategic direction of DevOps practices, tools, and automation across the organization. You will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of modern DevOps systems that ensure scalability, resilience, and reliability of mission-critical applications. Acting as a technical authority, you will collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and product teams to streamline delivery pipelines, strengthen infrastructure as code, and enhance observability and security. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines deep technical expertise with the ability to mentor others, champion DevOps best practices, and shape enterprise-wide engineering excellence.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and direction in designing, implementing, and optimizing DevOps practices and pipelines.
  • Drive the adoption of DevOps principles, automation, and continuous integration/delivery best practices across teams.
  • Collaborate closely with software and infrastructure engineers to identify bottlenecks and enhance software delivery efficiency.
  • Oversee the implementation of containerized deployments using Docker, Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, and ECS.
  • Manage and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as AWS CodePipeline and GitHub Actions.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using CloudFormation, Terraform, and AWS CDK.
  • Develop robust monitoring, logging, and security frameworks to support reliable operations.
  • Mentor engineers and cross-functional partners to elevate DevOps maturity and operational excellence.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies to refine and enhance DevOps processes and infrastructure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in DevOps, systems engineering, or software development.
  • Proven expertise with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS, Docker Swarm), and CI/CD pipelines (CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, Bamboo).
  • Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation, Terraform, and AWS CDK.
  • Hands-on experience with scripting and automation tools such as Python, Bash, and Ansible.
  • Solid understanding of monitoring, observability, and security practices within cloud and DevOps ecosystems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills, with experience guiding cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Ability to drive strategic DevOps initiatives and effectively represent the discipline at senior leadership levels.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field and experience working in large-scale cloud environments.
  • Competitive annual salary between $140,000 – $175,000, plus a 10% Short-Term Incentive Plan.
