Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a Principal Data Scientist – Immunology to join our Immunology R&D Data Science & Digital Health team on-site at Spring House, Cambridge, Titusville, Raritan, or San Diego. The role focuses on building scalable knowledge graph infrastructure and ontology development to standardize biomedical data for analytics and AI.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable NLP-enabled insights, maintain ontologies, and deploy graph databases

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or master’s degree in bioengineering, computer science, IT, bioinformatics, physics, mathematics, or related fields with emphasis on semantic technologies for biomedical applications.
• 5+ years professional experience in health informatics.
• Demonstrated experience in large-scale knowledge graphs construction, ontology development, pharmaceutical or healthcare domain integration.
• Programming background in parser combinators, natural language processing, and linked data (RDF Triple Stores and property graphs).
• Proficiency in semantic web technologies (SPARQL, RDF, OWL) and graph databases (Neo4j, Amazon Neptune).
• Experience with CI/CD implementations, Git tooling, CI/CD stacks, DevOps tools, and containerization (Docker, Singularity).
• Strong stakeholder management and multi-project prioritization skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable knowledge graph infrastructure for Immunology R&D data.
• Apply graph-based data modeling for data integration and retrieval across data sources.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists and Clinical Scientists to standardize AI-ready data sets.
• Extend immunology ontologies and maintain synonyms, cross-references, and provenance.
• Develop ingestion and curation pipelines using SPARQL/GraphQL/REST.
• Support NLP/RAG over graphs for search and study design tools.
• Deploy and manage graph databases focusing on high availability and scalability.
