Are you ready to disrupt the future of insurance with the power of Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI? The candidate will join and help build a practice on par with leading AI research laboratories that focuses on practical AI use cases for The Hartford. We are looking for visionary technical leaders who can effectively nurture, challenge, and inspire our teams, push boundaries enterprise-wide, and revolutionize how we underwrite, assess risk, process claims, and create standout customer experiences in the fast-changing world of AI!

This role requires an innovative, execution-focused Data Science leader with a deep scientific and implementation-focused understanding of the latest AI technologies, use cases, data engineering practices, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams across an enterprise. In this pivotal role, you will support the establishment of a world-class, leading-edge AI applied research team that leads in AI innovation and supports scaling and productization of the solutions with built-in scalability, security, and self-service features.

The ideal candidate will have a deep AI research background and a proven track record in integrating the latest AI capabilities and delivering solutions related to real-time data streaming, complex agentic frameworks, Data APIs, and graph knowledge bases, among others.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates living near our office locations are expected to work in-office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Remote candidates should be prepared to visit an office as needed. Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

Responsibilities :

  1. Support The Hartford’s AI innovation strategy by identifying and implementing high-end use cases aligned with business objectives and industry trends.
  2. Develop and support the enterprise-wide AI vision and roadmap to position The Hartford as a leader in AI for the insurance industry.
  3. Collaborate with stakeholders across Data Science, Technology, and Business units to drive innovation, improve productivity, and enhance underwriting and sales efforts.
  4. Architectural leadership: conceptualize what needs to be built and contribute to the actual development process.
  5. Lead end-to-end AI projects from problem formulation to deployment, integrating into broader analytics portfolios.
  6. Advance state-of-the-art AI/ML models focusing on GenAI, agent architecture chat solutions, automated scenario simulation, and model optimization.
  7. Develop LLM models and data-driven solutions to optimize business processes and facilitate data-driven decision making.
  8. Design experiments, tests, and causal inference analyses to evaluate interventions and initiatives.
  9. Champion AI solution integration within The Hartford’s AI platform for maximum reuse, scalability, and governance.
  10. Work closely with cross-functional teams to define, prioritize, and implement features, infrastructure, and workflows.
  11. Stay updated on AI developments, evaluate emerging technologies for potential adoption.
  12. Support building a high-performing AI team, fostering growth, and providing strategic leadership to drive transformative initiatives.
  13. Mentor team members on AI & GenAI technologies, agentic workflows, and best practices to promote innovation and continuous improvement.

Qualifications :

  • PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Engineering, or related field preferred, with 4+ years of AI experience and a strong ML foundation. Alternatively, a Master’s or Bachelor’s with 12+ years of industry experience will be considered.
  • Proven ability to execute AI visions aligned with business goals, with a strong understanding of AI trends and strategic positioning.
  • Experience with Data Science, Agent architecture (CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, Autogen, Prompt Flow), Large Language Models, LangChain, Retrieval Augmented Generation, Vector Databases, and ML models.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, and ML libraries such as PyTorch and scikit-learn.
  • Experience with NoSQL and SQL databases for data manipulation and querying.
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-based ML/LLMOps tools like SageMaker, ML Studio, Vertex AI; experience with GCP and BigQuery is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills for explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in creating production-grade data analytics and applications.
  • Insurance industry experience is a plus.

Compensation

The listed annual base pay range is based on external market analysis. Actual pay varies based on performance, proficiency, and competencies. Compensation includes base salary, bonuses, incentives, and recognition. The range for this role is :

$138,000 - $207,000
