Job summary

Salesforce, the #1 AI CRM, seeks a Principal Data Platform Engineer in San Francisco to design and build backend services and AI agent systems powering our Snowflake-based lakehouse. You will drive technical direction, reliability, and cost efficiency while mentoring teams and shaping API standards.

You’ll apply 15+ years of backend experience with Python/Go/Java, deploy production AI/LLM apps (RAG pipelines, tool-calling agents), and work with AWS, IaC, and CI/CD. A technical degree is required.

Qualifications

15+ years designing, building, and operating production backend services at scale.
Expert-level Python, Go, or Java.
Hands-on experience building and deploying production AI/LLM apps, including RAG pipelines and tool-calling agents.
Deep experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS), IaC, and CI/CD for containerized services.
Strong knowledge of identity and security practices, including OAuth/OIDC, least-privilege access, and multi-tenant isolation.
A related technical degree is required.

Responsibilities

Design and build backend services and event-driven systems for the data platform, including AI agent runtimes and API integrations.
Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and tool-calling AI agents to improve discoverability, query, and trust of data products.
Extend the platform's automation, CLI tooling, and shared utilities used by data teams.
Set technical direction through system/API design, code reviews, and mentoring, ensuring reliability, delivery, and cost efficiency.
