Job summary

Hut 8 in Miami, FL seeks a Principal Data Operations to build and run data systems powering analytics and business decisions. You will own ingestion, ETL orchestration with Airflow, and data warehousing across BigQuery, Snowflake, and Cloud SQL/PostgreSQL.

In this role you will ensure data quality, observability, and secure production operations, collaborating with cross-functional teams. Senior staff may lead complex initiatives and provide technical guidance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in data engineering or related field; 5+ for Senior level.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering/IS or equivalent experience.
• Strong Python and SQL skills.
• Experience operating production data pipelines.
• Experience with Airflow or Google Cloud Composer.
• Experience with BigQuery, GCS, and Snowflake.
• Familiarity with Git, GitHub, PRs, automated testing, and CI/CD.
• Linux and Bash familiarity.
• Experience integrating REST APIs, SFTP, or databases.
• Understanding of data quality, freshness, reconciliation, and monitoring.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into reliable data pipelines and services.
• Build and maintain ingestion from APIs, SFTP, files, databases, and cloud services.
• Develop and operate Airflow/GC Composer workflows with retries and backfills.
• Model and deliver data across BigQuery, Snowflake, Cloud SQL/PostgreSQL, and GCS.
• Support cloud infrastructure behind data products and IAM/Secret Manager.
• Design pipelines for idempotency, recoverability, and data freshness checks.
• Improve observability with logs, dashboards, alerts, and runbooks.
• Own production support for data systems and perform root-cause analysis.
• Apply least-privilege access and data-governance practices.
• Work within GitHub PRs, testing, CI/CD; Senior level to lead complex initiatives.
