Job summary

Ally is seeking a Principal Data Engineer in Detroit, MI (Hybrid) to design and evolve enterprise data solutions supporting analytics, data science, and AI initiatives. Lead cloud-based data pipelines, implement Data Vault models, and drive governance-aligned practices across insurance data domains.

You will mentor engineers, shape architecture, and partner with business teams to deliver scalable data platforms that enable trusted analytics and AI capabilities across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IS or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years in data engineering with analytics-focused warehouses like Snowflake.
• Experience with cloud data platforms and data governance practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize modern data pipelines and enterprise data solutions for analytics, reporting, data science, and AI use cases.
• Develop and implement cloud-based data engineering solutions including data lakes and cloud data warehouses.
• Design scalable data structures using Data Vault to enable auditable and resilient data solutions.
• Build and support data ingestion, transformation, preparation, and quality processes across structured and unstructured data sources.
• Develop robust data integration, relational/NoSQL processing, and API-based data services.
• Enable trusted, high-quality data for analytics, machine learning, and AI-enabled business capabilities.
• Partner with business/tech teams to define data requirements and transformation rules aligned to enterprise priorities.
• Advance Insurance Data and Analytics platform capabilities with scalable engineering and governance-aligned practices.
• Establish data quality, validation, metadata, and lineage processes for reliable enterprise data assets.
• Apply Agile and modern software engineering methods to deliver scalable, maintainable data solutions.
• Promote engineering standards across data platforms and services.
• Evaluate tools/architectures to improve performance and long-term supportability.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to identify challenges and deliver scalable solutions.
• Mentor engineers and drive engineering excellence across teams.
• Cover full SDLC including architecture, design, deployment, and ops support.
• Knowledge of the insurance data domain is a major plus.
• Ability to design trusted data foundations for advanced analytics and AI.
• Communicate complex concepts clearly to business partners.
