Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design scalable cloud data solutions on Azure. You will build large-scale data pipelines, optimize Spark-based ETL/ELT processes, and deploy AI-powered analytics and data products to support health outcomes.

The role emphasizes collaboration with data scientists, engineers, and product teams, with a focus on reliability, security, and performance in a modern cloud environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus 10+ years in data engineering environments.
• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data integration, data modeling, data architecture and ETL/ELT processes.
• 7+ years of experience in Python.
• 5+ years of experience with Apache Spark (PySpark/Spark SQL).
• 5+ years of experience with SQL, designing complex data schemas and optimizing queries.
• 3+ years of API design and lifecycle management (GraphQL, REST, etc.).
• 3+ years of experience building and deploying cloud-based solutions using Azure Databricks with UC, Snowflake, Functions, or Service Bus.
• 3+ years of experience with DevOps automation using Terraform.
• 3+ years of experience with CI/CD processes and tools (GitHub Actions, GIT, Artifactory, or Sonar).
• 2+ years of experience building LLM integrations for workflow automation or business needs.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable cloud applications in Azure for data platforms.
• Build and optimize large-scale data pipelines (ETL/ELT) on Databricks and Spark.
• Deploy AI and data-driven solutions for BI, insights, and ML features.
• Develop AI-powered business solutions to automate processes and workflows.
• Contribute to architectural patterns and standards for data engineering.
• Write advanced SQL for data reliability, integrity, and performance.
• Mentor data engineers and provide technical direction.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to decompose requirements and estimate work.
