OUR COMPANY – MURPHY & ASSOCIATES

Murphy & Associates has had the privilege of providing technology and business consulting services to over 150 diverse clients in the Greater Seattle Area since 1980. We take great pride in our full disclosure model and low margins which attracts top tier talent. We are transparent with our employees. Our business model fosters loyalty, satisfaction, and consistent delivery of quality services from the consultants on our team. Through it all, Murphy & Associates has stayed true to its roots, partnering with highly qualified technology and business consultants and working closely with our clients, fairly and ethically.

THE CLIENT

Our client is a large technology company based in the Greater Seattle Area.

PRINCIPAL DATA ENGINEER (data architecture + agentic apps)

What they'll do

  • Build data flows in Microsoft Fabric that give PMMs and executives an up-to-date, trusted picture of the business: launches, product usage, web, social, media mentions, and competitive signals.
  • Get our scorecard metrics live and snapshotting in a production system quickly, so we can show week-over-week progress, with metric definitions that hold up in an executive review.
  • Assess our product telemetry in Kusto: how big the tables are, which columns matter, and for each source whether to replicate a limited dataset into the lake or run the analytical query at the source and land only the resulting data point.
  • Turn one-off analyses into reusable dimensional models, so each new question builds on a single source of truth instead of starting over.
  • Make that data agent-accessible, not just people-accessible, by exposing it through semantic models, APIs, and MCP so agents and outer-loop agents can use it.
  • Pull in new sources, mostly external APIs and operational app databases, using reusable, config-driven ingestion.
  • Work alongside our app dev team, and ship code into the application itself as well as the lakehouse.
  • Build and maintain the setup that lets coding agents like Claude Code and GitHub Copilot generate new sources and tables through our normal review and deploy process.

Must-haves

  • Microsoft Fabric/OneLake: Lakehouse, notebooks/Spark, mirroring, semantic models, Power BI.
  • Kusto/KQL, including working with large, wide telemetry tables and choosing what to land and what to query at the source.
  • Strong data modeling, including dimensional models and a single source of truth.
  • Hands-on app/backend development: Python, SQL, PostgreSQL or a similar app database, REST APIs.
  • Git, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code (Terraform or similar).
  • Real experience building with AI coding agents in their day-to-day work.

Nice-to-haves

  • MCP servers, and Foundry or other agent frameworks
  • Marketing data sources (social listening, media monitoring, web analytics)
  • dbt or similar transformation tooling

What makes someone a fit: This is an unusual mix. We need someone who is both a data architect and a software developer, not a Power BI analyst or a pure pipeline engineer. This is a long-term role on the team. The data needs are specific to the team and will stay that way, so this person owns the foundation rather than standing it up for someone else to inherit. They should be able to show something working within weeks, not months.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duration: ASAP to start, to run through 6/30/2027, and planning to extend.

Daily Schedule: M-F, 40 hours a week, no OT anticipated.

Location: Role is open to remote candidates.

BENEFITS

We offer the opportunity to participate in health, dental, and vision insurance, along with a 401k.

Murphy is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We will consider all applications without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, color, religion, national origin, veteran status, disability, genetic information or any other status protected by applicable law.
