Job summary

Mastercard is seeking a Principal Software Engineer, Data Architecture to define and advance our global data architecture strategy. You will serve as the senior technical authority for how data is architected, governed, secured, and enabled across Mastercard's ecosystem.

You will drive the architectural vision for modernizing data platforms across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments, enabling both real-time and batch workloads while ensuring compliance and security, across diverse regions.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Principal Engineer or equivalent driving enterprise-scale data architecture.
• Deep expertise designing, building, and operating distributed data systems at global scale.
• Hands-on experience with Spark, Kafka, Flink, NiFi, Databricks, Snowflake, and modern cloud-native data platforms.
• Demonstrated success modernizing data platforms using cloud-native architectures across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
• Experience integrating AI-enabled capabilities into data platforms with governance and guardrails.
• Strong understanding of data governance, security, and regulatory compliance in highly regulated environments.
• Proven ability to influence architectural initiatives with Agile/SAFe or product-centric delivery models.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical leader for enterprise data architecture, partnering with VP and senior leadership.
• Translate business strategy into scalable, secure data architecture decisions for executives.
• Define and evolve Mastercard's global data architecture strategy across hybrid cloud and on‑premises environments.
• Architect secure, resilient solutions meeting global regulatory mandates including GDPR and data localization.
• Champion Data Mesh, data-as-a-product, governance, and self-service access across the enterprise.
• Lead modernization of legacy data platforms to cloud-native architectures across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Mentor and influence global engineering teams to uphold engineering excellence.
