Job description

Principal, Construction, NA Launch & Expansions (Last Mile), RSR Site Support

Job ID: 10494814 | Amazon.com Services LLC

Amazon's Last Mile network is scaling rapidly, and we're growing our fulfillment footprint with hundreds of new sites nationwide. As Principal Construction Manager for AMZL/RSR, you'll serve as the senior-most individual technical authority for construction delivery across a diverse portfolio of fulfillment and delivery station sites, owning the complete lifecycle from site validation through construction handover for the program's most complex, high-risk, and precedent-setting projects. This role demands a builder's mentality: you'll pioneer construction methodologies that achieve condensed timelines and frugal cost targets while navigating hundreds of distinct permitting jurisdictions.

As the program's principal technical expert, you'll set the standard for construction execution across the complete lifecycle — from design optimization, RFP process, and permitting strategy through contractor management, quality oversight, and operational handover — while maintaining rigorous financial guardrails. You'll act as the go-to escalation point for the toughest construction challenges, mentor construction managers across the org, and define the scalable processes and technical standards that raise the bar for the entire team. This is a rare opportunity to build at Amazon scale, working cross-functionally with Real Estate, Operations, Design, Launch, Startup, Legal, and external partners including developers, general contractors, architects, and local officials. You'll drive continuous improvement in construction execution, establish scalable processes for rapid growth, and directly impact Amazon's ability to deliver for millions of customers. Success in this role requires thriving in ambiguity, excelling at influencing without authority, and comfortably challenging the status quo.

Key job responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end construction delivery for the program's most complex and precedent-setting sites, from site validation through construction handover — personally driving the complete lifecycle including design optimization, permitting strategy, contractor management, and quality oversight
  • Pioneer innovation in construction methodologies to achieve condensed timelines and cost targets while navigating diverse permitting jurisdictions nationwide, setting the technical standard adopted across the program
  • Partner with Real Estate, Operations, Economic Development, Legal, and external stakeholders including developers, general contractors, architects, and local officials to enable rapid site deployment
  • Establish scalable processes and mechanisms for deployment of small-format retail facilities, pioneering due diligence and permitting approaches that raise the bar for the entire team
  • Inform financial guardrails and capital deployment strategy, making and influencing strategic trade-offs between opportunity, resources, and sustainability while optimizing costs across the construction portfolio
  • Serve as the principal technical authority and escalation point for the toughest construction challenges, mentoring and upskilling construction managers across the org to elevate execution capability program-wide
  • Drive continuous improvement in timeline, resourcing, and cost efficiency while maintaining rigorous safety and quality standards across all construction activities
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in construction or project management
  • 10+ years of construction or project management, or 10+ years of relevant discipline work experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
  • Experience leading change in multiple site environments and influenceing those that are not direct reports or within your organization
  • Experience representing your team or technical area to senior management
  • Experience working with data and leveraging analytics to make decisions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building scalable programs and repeatable scalable processes, levering various tools and methods to create scale and efficiency
  • Experience driving technological and process innovation
  • Experience managing and negotiating contracts and vendor relationships
  • Experience working with major MHE integrators
  • Master's degree, or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Experience in influencing senior leadership through data driven insights
