Job summary

IBM Software seeks a Principal Software Engineer for the Cloud Architecture and Reliability (CAR) team to ensure a multi-cloud data streaming platform stays up, recovers fast, and provides operator tools. You will influence architecture across Confluent R&D teams and lead others to deliver on our mission.

The role emphasizes architectural patterns for resiliency, observability, and AI-assisted operations, with a focus on regulated customers and scalable systems across regions.

Qualifications

Experience designing highly available distributed systems at cloud scale.
Ability to model service interactions and turn complexity into standards and guardrails.
Expertise in metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and SLOs; knowledge of telemetry economics.

Responsibilities

Define architectural patterns for systemic resiliency across CAR and Confluent Cloud.
Shape large-scale observability platform using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and related tools.
Design and build agentic operational data and guardrails for AI-assisted triage and remediation.
Collaborate with customers and leadership to translate regulatory expectations into engineering practice.
