The Opportunity

This role is based in St Paul, MN, within the Abbott Ventures division focused on Structural Heart. The goal is to develop device and management solutions for structural heart disease treatment.

The Principal Clinical Engineer will be responsible for understanding medical device functions and their clinical application. This includes training internal staff and physicians, developing training materials, supporting product development, and serving as a subject matter expert (SME) in interventional cardiac procedures. The role involves collaboration with clinical specialists, ensuring best practices, and supporting regulatory compliance.

What You’ll Work On
  • Develop and deliver technical training for clinical specialists and healthcare providers
  • Support investigations into product experiences and serve as an SME for product development and validation activities
  • Create and facilitate device-based training content
  • Support troubleshooting, re-training, and field implementation of investigational products
  • Assist in patient identification, case planning, and support
  • Identify trends and report issues related to product performance
  • Ensure compliance with FDA and other regulations
  • Maintain positive communication with all stakeholders
  • Perform additional duties as needed, including occasional evening and weekend work
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, biology, or related field
  • At least 8 years of clinical experience
  • Effective team collaboration skills
  • Certification in percutaneous cardiac procedures and device usage
  • Understanding of engineering principles and clinical engineering or R&D experience
  • Experience in clinical environments, including sterile technique and clinical research
  • Ability to work across diverse teams and travel up to 70%
  • Expertise in cardiac medical procedures
  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) preferred
