Description

SHINE Technologies is seeking a Principal CGD Engineer to provide senior subject matter expertise supporting the development and execution of commercial grade dedication (CGD) plans, qualification plans, procurement engineering evaluations, supplier qualification activities, and receipt inspection activities for items in support of construction of the Chrysalis and other SHINE-specific projects.

The Principal CGD Engineer is an individual contributor technical SME role. This position is intended for a highly experienced nuclear procurement engineering and commercial grade dedication professional who can independently resolve complex dedication, qualification, supplier evidence, and nuclear quality questions without assuming direct personnel-management responsibilities.

The base salary range for this position is $125,000 - $160,000 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Principal Commercial Grade Dedication Engineer:

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Develop and provide reviews of CGD plans to qualify commercial items for QL-1 and other safety-significant applications.
• Develop dedication strategies that connect end-use application, safety function, credible failure mechanisms, critical characteristics, acceptance methods, and objective evidence.
• Develop and provide reviews of qualification plans, considering mechanical, electrical, radiological, environmental, and seismic effects for items being qualified.
• Interface with Engineering organizations to identify safety functions, failure modes, use cases, design inputs, service conditions, and acceptance criteria needed to support dedication and qualification decisions.
• Interface with Procurement, Project Management, Construction, Quality Assurance, and Operations organizations to understand how procurement engineering and CGD tasks affect installation dates, supplier readiness, and project execution.
• Support development of procurement strategies with Engineering and other Procurement staff, including development of requests for proposals (RFPs), technical bid evaluations, procurement requirements, and supplier technical interfaces.
• Perform and review technical evaluations, equivalency evaluations, critical spare evaluations, procurement engineering evaluations, and dedication packages for complex nuclear applications.
• Evaluate commercial item suitability, procurement path, supplier evidence, acceptance method selection, and dedication package completeness.
• Complete commercial grade surveys of vendors, source verification activities, supplier quality assessments, and supplier evidence reviews, as required.
• Evaluate supplier quality programs, procurement controls, manufacturing controls, special processes, inspection records, test records, certifications, and traceability evidence for adequacy.
• Generate Over, Short, Damage, and Discrepant (OSDD) reports as required.
• Generate nonconformance reports (NCRs) as required and support technical disposition of supplier-related quality issues.
• Apply ASME NQA-1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B principles, EPRI NP-5652 methodology, 10 CFR Part 21 and applicable SHINE procedures to CGD and procurement engineering activities.
• Provide technical input to procedure improvements, checklists, templates, training materials, and standard work related to CGD, procurement engineering, supplier qualification, and equipment qualification.
• Serve as a recognized technical SME for complex CGD, procurement engineering, equipment qualification, supplier qualification, and nuclear quality questions.
• Mentor engineers and reviewers on CGD logic, evidence quality, failure-mode thinking, critical characteristic development, and defensible package preparation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or other technical field.
• Minimum 12 years’ experience in nuclear engineering, procurement engineering, quality assurance, commercial grade dedication, supplier qualification, equipment qualification, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience developing, reviewing, or technically approving commercial grade dedication plans, qualification plans, technical evaluations, procurement engineering evaluations, or dedication packages.
• Strong understanding of ASME NQA-1 requirements.
• Strong understanding of commercial grade dedication methodology, including EPRI NP-5652 concepts, critical characteristics, acceptance methods, and objective evidence requirements.
• Understanding of nuclear facility principles and operation.
• Experience evaluating supplier quality programs, commercial grade surveys, source verification activities, supplier evidence, and procurement documentation.
• Experience supporting supplier audits, commercial grade surveys, or supplier oversight activities.
• Ability to develop strong vendor relationships while maintaining independence, technical rigor, and clear documentation of acceptance basis.
• Ability to work accurately and independently with a high level of technical judgment in a safety-focused and quality-controlled environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Time management and organizational skills.
• Must be skilled in the use of Microsoft 365 software.

Preferred Experience

• Fifteen or more years of applicable nuclear industry experience.
• Direct experience implementing, improving, or serving as SME for commercial grade dedication programs.
• Experience in commercial grade dedication using EPRI NP-5652 methodology.
• Experience in environmental qualification of equipment, such as electrical and mechanical aging and seismic testing in accordance with IEEE 344.
• Experience with ASME QME-1, IEEE 323 and IEEE 344 or related nuclear equipment qualification standards.
• Experience with nuclear procurement engineering, spare parts equivalency, failure modes and effects analysis, technical evaluations, source verification, supplier audits, and supplier oversight.
• Experience supporting DOE, NRC-regulated, research reactor, isotope production, nuclear construction, nuclear waste, aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated quality programs.
• Certified Nuclear QA Lead Auditor, ASQ certification, professional engineering license, or other relevant technical certification.
• Master’s degree in engineering, nuclear engineering, quality systems, business administration, or related discipline.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

• Requires occasional leaning, bending, stooping, crouching, grasping, and reaching above the shoulders and below the knees.
• Occasional moderate physical activity.
• Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day as required.
• Fine motor coordination and strong depth perception is beneficial.
• Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant’s ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls.
