Job summary

American Honda Motor Company, Inc. is seeking a Principal CAE Engineer to lead CAE model development and method creation within the Digital Development Innovation Department.

You will guide project teams, ensure modeling quality, and shape technical direction for CAE tools used across vehicle development. You will work onsite with an option for one remote day per week, leveraging your expertise in CAE software, programming (Matlab/Python), and strong communication to deliver robust, validated

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field.
• 8+ years of CAE experience.
• Experience with full-vehicle CAE model construction, visualization and analysis tools (ANSA, META, HyperWorks, ModSim).
• Knowledge of NVH: OptiStruct, Nastran, Actran; Crash: LS-DYNA, Abaqus Explicit; Strength/Durability: Abaqus Standard, Nastran, OptiStruct.
• Proficiency in Matlab, Python, and Excel VBA.
• Experience creating new CAE models/methods and performing verification and validation.
• Ability to present complex concepts as simple summaries and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and provide technical guidance for CAE teams to develop and validate new CAE methods.
• Develop and evaluate metrics for quality of modeling and analysis.
• Set the plan for the technical direction of CAE methods development.

Job Purpose

• As a Principal CAE Engineer in the Digital Development Innovation Department, you will be responsible to lead a project or team for CAE model and method creation.
• Proficient use and understanding of CAE methods contributes to improved optimization, speed, and efficiency of our products and development processes.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead and provide technical guidance for a team(s) or project(s) to develop and validate new CAE methods for both specification setting and product verification.
• Develops and evaluates metrics for quality of modeling and analysis.
• Assist in setting the plan for the technical direction of CAE methods development.
• Collaborate with principal test and principal design engineers to ensure CAE models are achieving accuracy targets.
• Collaborate with other principal engineers to ensure the CAE methods are meeting the requirements for application to development projects.
• Create documentation for the registration of CAE Models as a verified tool for specification setting and product verification.

Qualifications, Experience, And Skills

• Minimum educational qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelors level or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related STEM field of study.
• Minimum work experience:
  • At least 8 or more years of experience based on education
  • Software Experience:
  • Pre-/Post-Processing:
    • Experience using industry-standard pre-/post-processing tools for full-vehicle-level CAE model construction, visualization, and analysis (e.g., ANSA, META, HyperWorks, ModSim).
  • Structural Simulation Solvers: Strong working knowledge of solvers relevant to the candidate's domain of expertise. Note: Candidates are not expected to have experience with all listed tools. Examples by domain include:
    • NVH: OptiStruct, Nastran, Actran
  • Crash: LS-DYNA, Abaqus Explicit
  • Strength / Durability: Abaqus Standard, Nastran, OptiStruct
  • Expertise with programming language software such as Matlab, Python, and Excel VBA.
  • Expertise with creation of new CAE Models/Methods and performing verification and validation.
  • Ability to present complex concepts as simple summarie
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
