PRINCIPAL BUDGET ANALYST

Fiscal Services

Classification: Class Code 2250 / Level 3 / Exempt / Full-Time / Benefited

Hiring Salary Range: $70,000 - $100,000 (commensurate with experience)

THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Fiscal Services, Budgeting and Planning, the Principal Budget Analyst assists with the centralized financial planning and budget management functions of the College. The role serves as a secondary to the Associate Director and department heads on fiscal issues, communicating with external funding agencies in their absence. The incumbent researches, compiles, analyzes, and interprets budget and financial data, participating across departments. Responsibilities include complex budget, auditing, payroll, and accounting activities.

Typical duties include:

  1. Preparing budget reports for state and federal agencies.
  2. Coordinating reports for the Governor's Budget.
  3. Assisting in budget development and participating in budget hearings.
  4. Preparing reports for the College's Board of Directors and Foundation meetings.
  5. Developing financial forecasts and models.
  6. Providing support and training on budget systems and resolving issues.
  7. Monitoring revenues and expenditures, recommending adjustments.
  8. Assisting in planning and developing operating budgets.
  9. Compiling reports and analyses, supporting audit processes.
  10. Analyzing ledger balances and preparing documentation for auditors.
  11. Participating in policy development and serving on committees.
  12. Performing other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred but not required.
  • Minimum two years of relevant State budget experience.
  • Experience presenting information to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with California Department of Finance or similar budget principles.
