Principal Avionics Engineer

Compensation: $150,000 - $240,000 / year

Venturi Astrolab, Inc. (Astrolab) is pioneering new ways to explore and operate on distant planetary bodies. We are focused on designing, building, and operating a fleet of multi-purpose commercial planetary rovers to extend humanity’s presence in the solar system. We seek motivated, creative, and exceptional individuals to join our team.

The Astrolab Avionics team develops advanced, space-grade vehicle platforms for terrestrial applications, covering power systems, command and data handling, and motion control. Our engineers are involved in all mission phases from concept to operations.

As a Principal Avionics Engineer, you will plan and execute hardware design for complex avionic systems for terrestrial use. Your role includes trade studies, defining interface requirements, leading verification & validation efforts, and analyzing system performance. You will serve as a technical advisor, leveraging your extensive experience.

What you'll do:
  • Lead design, modeling, analysis, testing, and validation of avionic systems
  • Define requirements to verify architectural integrity and designs
  • Generate comprehensive documentation and reports
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure system integration and performance
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant technical discipline
  • Minimum of 9 years of professional experience, or Master's with 7 years, or Ph.D. with 5 years
  • Proficiency in analog/digital electronics, control systems, power systems, reliability engineering, and integration & test
  • Strong understanding of motor control, power electronics, and system engineering principles
  • Experience with microcontrollers and FPGAs for control methodologies
  • Expertise in electronic design, schematics, reliability analysis, PCB layout, manufacturing, and testing of space-grade avionics
  • Experience with industry-standard design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, LTSPICE, PSPICE)
  • Proven ability to innovate and solve complex problems
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Experience in aerospace or military hardware development and testing
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
