Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate/Technical Director to lead teams and advance urban drainage modelling capabilities for clients such as Severn Trent, Scottish Water Horizons, Welsh Water, and Southern Water. You will guide technical delivery and influence project outcomes while representing WSP at industry forums.

Qualifications

• Degree and chartered status or progressing toward ICE/IEI/IoW/CIWEM.
• Experience in wastewater hydraulic modelling and ability to review others' outputs.
• Familiar with Water Industry Specifications, the Code of Practice for Hydraulic Modelling, and relevant standards.
• Strong presentation and communication skills.

About the role

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of our urban drainage modelling capability, ensuring the team remains ahead of the curve on evolving methods, tools, and standards.
• Support the team lead with the day‑to‑day management of our technical delivery team.
• Provide authoritative technical input on urban drainage projects, working closely with our wastewater team to support innovative and efficient project delivery.
• Apply independent professional judgement to solve complex engineering challenges and drive innovation.
• Build strong, trusted client relationships and facilitate internal and external project meetings.
• Contribute to business development, proposals, and strategic growth opportunities.
• Represent WSP in industry forums and conferences.
• Share knowledge widely, contributing to the development of the wider water team.

Qualifications

• A relevant degree and chartered status, or a significantly progressed journey toward qualification with ICE, IEI, IoW, or CIWEM.
• Clear and successful experience of wastewater hydraulic modelling (e.g., InfoWorks ICM) and ability to check the technical outputs of others prior to issue.
• Good working knowledge of Water Industry Specifications, the Code of Practice for the Hydraulic Modelling of Urban Drainage Systems, and relevant British Standards.
• Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
