Overview
The Principal Associate Scientist role at Alnylam requires strong interpersonal skills, the capacity to multi-task, and the ability to learn and master new techniques. We particularly seek someone who is detail-oriented and who will flourish in a goal-driven team environment under tight deadlines.
This position is onsite and is located in Cambridge, MA.
Key Responsibilities
- Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses (chemistry, hematology, coagulation) of blood, urine, tissue homogenates, and other fluids.
- Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures, when needed.
- Ensures operation of analyzers by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
- Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, graphing and summarizing information.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Maintains inter- and intradepartmental workflow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Biology, Cell/Molecular Biology, chemistry, or related field with 5-8 years of work experience.
- MT/MLT ASCP Certification
- Proficiency in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting all associated equipment (Chemistry, coagulation and Hematology analyzers).
- Familiarity with data capture systems (ie Pristima) is preferred.
- Excellent lab technique and ability to work independently.
- Experience onboarding and validating new assays.
- Establishing and maintaining reference ranges for multiple species (rat, mouse, nhp, etc).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) are required.
- Excellent organization, documentation, and record-keeping are required.
