Job summary

DISCO in Austin seeks a Principal Software Engineer to shape and evolve architecture using distributed domain-driven design for robust, scalable systems. You will guide teams to adopt best practices, patterns, and informed buy-vs-build decisions.

You’ll lead architecture directions, enhance platform capabilities, and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, aligning stakeholders on strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• 15 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with high volume distributed architectures emphasizing reliability and availability.
• Experience with big data technologies such as ElasticSearch, NoSQL, Kafka, DataFlow or related systems.
• Experience with infrastructure services like messaging buses, configuration and toggle systems, and observability tooling.
• Experience with Domain Driven Design concepts and distributed data systems.
• Ability to design and communicate architectures (SOA, Docker-based services, microservices) with patterns and diagrams.
• CI/CD experience with automation tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, CodePipeline.
• Knowledge of API and data model design and scalable storage solutions.
• Experience across multiple software stacks and cloud providers (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Understanding of security considerations in software design.

Responsibilities

• Architecture Leadership: defines and evolves architecture using DDD practices and informs architecture quality attributes.
• Platform Capability Enhancement: prioritizes platform improvements and communicates architecture descriptions via automation and tools.
• Effective Communication: communicates complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences and aligns stakeholders on decisions.
