Zillow Group Inc. is seeking a Principal Applied Scientist to help build the Zillow World Model, a unifying, uncertainty-aware representation of housing market dynamics.

You will turn large-scale shopper behavior into structured demand representations and design dynamic models capable of multi-step planning and state estimation. The role emphasizes research leadership, production impact, and collaboration with the World Model team.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
• Hands-on experience building latent state-space or world models with uncertainty.
• Demonstrated ability to turn large-scale user behavior data into structured demand representations.

Responsibilities

• Build the demand layer of the World Model using shopper behavior data.
• Design and train latent state-space and sequential dynamics models with calibrated uncertainty.
• Estimate willingness-to-pay and market dynamics from learned representations.
• Apply causal identification in observational data and define bounds for what-ifs.
• Mentor scientists and ML engineers; drive end-to-end research-to-production translation.
