We are seeking a visionary and seasoned technology leader to drive our investments in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). As a Principal Applied Scientist, you will report directly to the Director of Machine Learning at Amazon Music, and help architect our ML strategy, overseeing the design of our ML stack and ensuring the quality of our models. Your success in this role will depend on your deep expertise in search, personalization, discovery, AI/ML, Generative AI, and your passion for entertainment. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of audio entertainment for millions of listeners worldwide. As a center of excellence in machine learning, this role will place you at the forefront of applying Generative AI at scale, using Amazon’s rich datasets. You will have a direct impact on shaping the future of audio exploration, driving massive customer experience improvements, and achieving critical business KPIs.

Key job responsibilities
  1. As a technical leader, you will guide teams of scientists and engineers in translating complex business and functional requirements into tangible, high-impact deliverables.
  2. Drive innovation by applying advanced ML techniques in recommendation systems, search algorithms, and marketing optimization.
  3. Provide thought leadership and guidance to push the boundaries of what’s possible with Generative AI in entertainment.
  4. Represent Amazon Music at both internal and external scientific conferences, collaborating closely with teams across Amazon, including Retail, Prime Video, AGI, and AWS, to advance the state of AI/ML research and its applications.
  5. Build and nurture partnerships with academic institutions to ensure our teams have access to the latest research and mentoring opportunities.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. PhD in Computer Science/Math or a related field
  2. 10+ years’ industry/academic experience in building machine learning models
  3. Strong familiarity with Gen AI for foundational models and Large Language Models
  4. Demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications that advance state-of-the art applied science
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Computer Science fundamentals in Computer Vision and DL across modeling, data structures, algorithm design and complexity analysis
  2. The ability to Think Big, Dive Deep and Learn & Be Curious to provide strategic direction to various entertainment teams across Amazon
  3. The leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to excel in influence-based roles, with or without direct authority, while working closely with internal and external partners in leading science efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
  4. A demonstrated track record of project delivery for large, cross-functional projects with evolving requirements.
  5. Ability to take a project from requirements gathering and design to actual product launch.
