Principal Software Engineer - API Focus
Lensa, in partnership with The Hartford, is seeking a highly skilled Principal API Software Engineer to lead API development and modernization efforts. This role involves hands-on technical leadership, guiding teams, and developing innovative solutions involving new technologies such as GenAI.
Responsibilities
- Lead API engineering efforts, including configuration and administration of API platforms like API Connect, Apigee, Azure API Management, and Amazon API Gateway.
- Drive engineering excellence, participate in development, testing, and deployment of impactful technical components.
- Create solutions to enable federated teams, enhance developer experiences, and accelerate API delivery.
- Ensure API scalability, performance, security, and quality, leading governance practices and DevOps initiatives.
- Manage reliability and incident response, including on-call rotations and incident analysis.
- Innovate through Proof of Concepts, leveraging industry trends and emerging technologies like GenAI.
- Build strong relationships with teams, communicate effectively, and solve complex technical challenges.
- Mentor and coach engineering team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in technical roles with leadership experience, including as a Principal Software Engineer.
- 5+ years of API and integration expertise, with hands-on experience in API platforms.
- Deep understanding of API design, lifecycle management, and security frameworks.
- Experience with cloud technologies, microservices, event-driven architecture, and API security.
- Strong communication skills and ability to drive API adoption as products.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java and Python, and familiarity with front-end and low-code/no-code solutions.
- Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field.
- Experience in the insurance industry and with GenAI technologies.
Compensation
The annual base pay ranges from $166,560 to $249,840, with additional benefits and incentives. The Hartford is an equal opportunity employer.
