Job summary
Auburn University’s Charles D. McCrary Institute seeks a Principal Research Scientist/Engineer to lead AI/ML engineering, software delivery, and enterprise solution architecture.
Based in Huntsville, this role shapes the institute's research and technology portfolio, guiding secure, scalable solutions across programs. You will mentor researchers and engineers, set roadmaps for AI/data and software capabilities, and oversee DevSecOps practices while delivering mission-focused outcomes for
Qualifications
- US citizenship is required.
- PhD in engineering, science, MIS, or related field.
- Experience leading AI/ML engineering and software development.
Responsibilities
- Set and maintain the technical roadmap for AI, data, and software capabilities across Edge Lab programs.
- Lead multidisciplinary research and development projects from problem framing to deployment and transition.
- Design and review software architectures, APIs, data pipelines, model-serving patterns, and integration approaches.
- Establish engineering practices for source control, automated testing, CI/CD, secure software development, and release management.
- Mentor engineers, researchers, students, and staff; assign work and expand bench strength.
- Develop proposals, budgets, schedules, demonstrations, reports, and executive briefings.
