Job summary

Brio Digital is seeking a Principal AI Engineer in New York, NY, to lead enterprise Generative AI programmes and deliver LLM-based systems.

You'll guide architecture and delivery, mentor teams, and collaborate with product owners and data scientists while hands-on building multi-agent LLM solutions and RAG platforms for major clients.

Qualifications

• 10–12+ years of hands-on software/engineering experience.
• 4–6+ years building and deploying AI/ML models and systems.
• Experience with RAG, agentic AI, prompt engineering and LLM-based architectures.
• Hands-on experience with LangChain and LangGraph.
• Experience deploying AI applications on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Experience defining technical roadmaps and leading engineering teams through delivery.
• Excellent communication skills with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap for Generative AI projects, translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Lead engineering teams through the execution and delivery of technical roadmaps.
• Design, develop, optimise and deploy LLM-based applications and systems.
• Build solutions using prompt engineering, RAG, agentic architectures and LLM fine-tuning.
• Architect production-grade Generative AI platforms and applications.
• Own and maintain high-quality Python and SQL codebases, with a focus on reusable components, scalability and performance.
• Build AI applications using frameworks such as LangChain and LangGraph.
• Support the deployment of Generative AI applications across AWS, Azure and/or GCP.
• Implement and improve CI/CD processes and optimise cloud resource usage.
• Work closely with product owners, data scientists and business SMEs to translate business challenges into technical solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and knowledge-sharing across engineering teams.
• Stay current with developments across LLMs and Generative AI and identify opportunities to apply emerging approaches to production systems.

The Role

We are looking for a Principal AI Engineer with strong hands‑on experience building and deploying LLM‑powered applications.

You’ll take a senior technical leadership role within a Generative AI engineering organisation, working on enterprise AI programmes and collaborating with engineers across multiple disciplines.

Previous projects delivered by the team have included multi‑agent LLM systems, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) platforms and open‑source LLM deployments for major enterprises.

This is a highly hands‑on position combining AI architecture, engineering leadership and technical delivery.

• Expert‑level understanding of how to architect production Generative AI applications and systems.
• Hands‑on experience with LangChain and/or LangGraph.
• Experience deploying AI applications using AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Experience defining technical roadmaps and leading engineering teams through delivery.
• Excellent communication skills, particularly when working with business stakeholders and SMEs.

Education:

Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
