Job summary
General Dynamics Information Technology seeks a Principal AI Full Stack Software Engineer to join the Crystal City, VA AI team. You will design, deploy, and sustain the analytics stack, including frontends, production APIs, and data layers, focusing on reliable, user-centric software for mission outcomes.
You will prototype and deliver AI-driven features, integrate LLM workflows, and ensure secure, scalable backend services and dashboards for government-scale use.

- Clearance: Current TS/SCI with ability to obtain CI Polygraph.
- Experience: 8+ years of related experience in software engineering.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Role requirements: Onsite in Crystal City, VA; US Citizens only.

- Develop Python-based backend and AI-enabled web applications and analytics.
- Lead design and implementation of AI-enabled web apps and analytics using Streamlit, React, or similar tech.

As aPrincipalAgenticAI Full Stack Software Engineer, you will be a core member of the AI team responsible for prototyping, building, and delivering critical data analytics capabilities. You will help translate emerging AI and machine learning concepts into reliable, user-focused software solutions that support mission outcomes.
- Develop clean, maintainable, and efficient Python code while adhering to best practices and coding standards.
- Lead the technical design and implementation of AI-enabled web applications and analytics usingStreamlit, React, or similar technologies.
- Integrate modern AI and large language model capabilities into applications and workflows, including prompting, tool calling, retrieval-augmented generation(RAG), and related patterns.
- Design, develop, and integrate APIs, includingFastAPI-based services, to enable seamless communication between systems.
- Build andmaintainuser interfaces that make complex AI, data, and analytics capabilities accessible to end users.
- Establish andmaintainCI/CD pipelines and container-based deployments using tools such as Docker to support repeatable builds and reliable releases.
- Work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL to ensure data integrity, performance, and efficiency.
- Implement andmaintainversion control using Git to streamline collaboration and code management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, develop, test, and deliver new features.
- Ensure all developed solutions meethigh standardsfor security, quality, reliability, and maintainability.
- Contribute to all stages of the software development life cycle, from concept and design through testing, deployment, and sustainment.
- Proficiencyin writing clean, maintainable, and efficient Python code.
- Experience building AI-enabled web applications, analytic dashboards, or user workflows usingStreamlitor similar technologies.
- Strong knowledge of web technologies, containerization, RESTful APIs, and user interface development.
- Experience designing andmaintainingscalable backend solutions using Python frameworks.
- Familiarity with relational database systems such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
- Proficiencywith Docker; Kubernetes experience is a plus.
- Proficiencywith Git-based version control and collaborative software development workflows.
- Hands-on experience with full stack development and a strong understanding of the software development life cycle.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience developing modern front-end applications using React.
- Hands-on experience designing or developing LLM-powered agentic workflows that use tool calling, structured outputs, task planning, and multi-step execution.
- Familiarity with component-based UI development, state management, and reusable front-end design patterns.
- Experience integrating React-based frontends with RESTful APIs or Python-based backend services.
- Experience supporting AI, machine learning, data analytics, or mission-focused software applications.
- Familiarity with cloud-native application development,DevSecOpspractices, or secure software delivery environments.
- Experience implementing reliable AI workflows with validation, error handling, retries, logging, and fallback strategies.
- Understanding ofMLOpsconcepts, including model registry/versioning, reproducible environments, and CI/CD for ML-enabled systems.
- Clearance:Current TS/SCI Clearance with active or ability to obtain CI Polygraphisrequired

The likely salary range for this position is $153,000 - $207,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
