Job description

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. We are a dynamic team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of New Glenn product development and mission integration. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

In this role you will integrate the configuration and interfaces between the launch vehicle and the assembly, transportation, launch pad, and recovery operations.

  • Define and manage interfaces between subsystems using appropriate control documents including interface control documents and interface control models.
  • Coordinate configuration reviews to address program level interfaces, subsystem functionality, assembly, and operations.
  • Facilitate and resolve integration and development issues between engineering teams
  • Lead cross-functional trade and impact studies to assist in development of formal changes and overall coordination of changes.
  • Provide technical assistance to integration and testing activities
  • Develop and maintain an Integrated Launch Vehicle End Item Engineering Bill of Materials
  • Ensure that the configuration supports major design reviews and integration milestones.
  • Ensure the team adheres to the configuration management best practices as well as Blue Origin configuration management standards.
  • Create and manage Engineering Change Requests to support Integrated Launch Vehicle interfaces, integration, and configuration control.
Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in engineering and at least 10 years of experience in the development and packaging of aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures.
  • Demonstrated configuration control experience on recently developed aircraft or launch vehicles from early trade studies through final design and into manufacturing and test
  • Strong design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software and visualization tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scheduling and planning principles and tools
  • Good judgment and flexibility.
  • Driven to achieve results
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture.
Desired
  • 15+ years of demonstrated ability in development and integration of aircraft, space craft, or launch vehicle structures.
  • Experience using PTC Creo, DOORS, and PTC Windchill
  • Knowledge of aerospace vehicle fabrication and assembly techniques
  • Ability to interpret and apply high-level system requirements to practical design solutions
  • Experience with engineering effectivity application, assignment, and management
