Job summary

GE Appliances, a Haier company, is seeking a Principal Advanced Manufacturing Engineer – Test in Louisville, KY. You will lead the planning, design, and deployment of automated test systems across our manufacturing network to ensure product quality and efficiency.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with DFMA/DFT teams, and drive data-driven improvements using modern IT and automation platforms.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering required.
  • 7+ years hands-on test or controls experience in large-scale manufacturing.
  • NPI experience and equipment interfaces.
  • Experience with data exchange, AutoID systems (barcode, RFID).
  • Proficient in Windows and Linux; distributed architectures.

  • Partner with product design teams to integrate DFMA and DFT into part development.
  • Evaluate competing technologies to identify best solution aligned with performance and cost.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training to junior engineers and cross-functional partners.

This team owns the engineering standards for electrical, automation, robotics, and test systems company-wide. Within it, the Test Systems group leads the creation and deployment of automated solutions that ensure product quality for New Product Introduction (NPI) and Run-the-Plant (RTP) initiatives—driving productivity, innovation, and cost efficiency.

How You'll Create Possibilities
  • Lead the planning, design, specification, and implementation of advanced electrical, instrumentation, and test systems used in manufacturing and laboratory environments.
  • Serve as the connection point between equipment project teams and test platform developers—ensuring clear communication, accurate requirements, and effective deployment of new capabilities.
  • Introduce and scale technologies that transform equipment and product verification data into actionable insights for operations and quality teams.
  • Assess sensor technologies and test methods to ensure reliable process capability and compliance with quality requirements, while proposing new approaches when needed.
  • Partner with product design teams to integrate Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Testability (DFT) into part development.
  • Evaluate competing technologies and identify the best solution aligned with performance, cost, and application needs.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training to junior engineers and cross-functional partners, especially in equipment design, testing strategies, and component selection.
What You'll Bring to Our Team
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • 7+ years hands on & relevant test or controls engineering experience with electrical, instrumented manufacturing equipment and processes in a large-scale manufacturing environment
  • Desired Characteristics: Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Experience with new product introduction (NPI), including systems integration and developing equipment interfaces
  • Successful design and deployment of factory equipment for data exchange, AutoID systems (barcode, RFID), and discrete/analog I/O
  • Proficient in operating systems (Windows, Linux), software programming concepts, and distributed architectures (server/client, pub/sub, security, web reporting)
  • Creative thinker with a proven track record of envisioning and executing future test system solutions
  • Self-motivated curiosity extending beyond immediate responsibilities
  • Skilled in root-cause analysis and troubleshooting unknown issues to implement corrective actions
  • Knowledgeable in instrumentation technologies: electrical, fluid, and visual inspection
  • Experience managing electromechanical equipment procurement projects, including specification development, supplier selection, technical reviews, installation, and qualification
  • Strong project tracking and detailed planning skills
  • Ability to work effectively in large cross-functional teams and across organizational levels
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; capable of providing status updates and training other engineers on electrical standards
  • Proven ownership of cross-functional program deliverables and decision-making for company benefit
  • Willingness to travel to satellite facilities for equipment deployment
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing principles
  • Ability to implement Agile processes and Test-Driven Development methodologies
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and using MS SQL databases
  • Experienced with electrical equipment CAD platforms (Solidworks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical)
  • Fluency in Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking technologies, including 802.3, 802.11, STP, DNS, DHCP, Subnets, VLAN, VPN, MQTT, OPC-UA, HTTP, Firewalls, and protocol analysis (Wireshark)
  • Understanding of data encoding schemes: XML, JSON, Protobuf
  • Experience with Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or related technologies
  • Skilled in deploying computer systems for rapid feasibility demonstrations (single-board computers, Docker containers, virtual machines)
  • Working knowledge of data analysis platforms such as MiniTab, SAS, R, Jupyter Notebook, or equivalents
