Job summary

UCI Health is seeking a dedicated Registration and Scheduling Specialist to support surgical patient flow. You will obtain authorizations, verify funding, and schedule procedures while ensuring excellent patient service.

Candidates should have experience with patient registration systems, basic medical terminology, and strong English communication skills; weekend/evening coverage is required. Epic experience preferred.

Qualifications

Your Role on the Team

Incumbent performs all tasks necessary to obtain necessary authorizations, verify the patient has a source of funding to cover services, and schedule patients for surgery. Responds to patient inquiries and resolves any identified issues. Required Qualifications
What It Takes to be Successful
  • Previous experience with computer registration and registration scheduling system
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Must be able to travel to off site physician practices
  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience (within past two (2) years) registering patients in a hospital or clinic, working as a Medical Assistant, or working in medical billing
  • General knowledge of ICD9 and CPT codes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated experience using MS Office
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to interpret and understand various medical insurance plans and make accurate determinations regarding coverage
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
  • Familiarity of Joint Commission standards
  • Experience with Epic
  • Demonstrated experience with authorization process and surgical scheduling
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
