Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Principal Accountant position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

Job Summary

The Principal Accountant will be responsible for multiple complex aspects of the Company’s accounting and reporting. Primary responsibilities will focus on leading the maintenance of the Company’s accounting structure and system, month-end close responsibilities including journal entry preparation, account analysis and reconciliation, and preparation and review of critical accounting reports, the preparation of the Company’s consolidated financial statements, documentation of critical accounting processes and accounting treatments. This position will coordinate closely with the members of the Accounting teams, the Treasury team, the Business Systems teams, and other teams as needed. Additionally, this position will be focused on improving processes associated with both Blue Springs and Global entities close and reporting. The Principal Accountant will function as a subject matter expert and will support and mentor less experienced team members as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

• Participates in the monthly closing of the Fike financial statements including journal entry preparation, account analysis, and trend analysis, and actively looks for opportunities to be innovative through creating efficiencies in the closing, reporting, and other processes.
• Reviews the preparation of the corporate consolidation including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statements.
• Supports and standardizes other Fike business units related to accounting practices and processes within the Fike business system.
• Reviews account reconciliations including identifying discrepancies and taking the necessary corrective actions.
• Serves as main point of contact for the audit of the corporate financial statements and the benefit plans. Assists in preparation of work papers, footnotes, and audit report.
• Performs analysis related to the company’s balance sheet, operating results, and cash flows as required including review of subsidiary performance.
• Maintains and creates internal controls for all company locations.
• Participates in the maintenance of the chart of accounts and various financial reports.
• Works on special complex projects as required.
• Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.

Work Environment

Job Qualifications

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Five years or more of a combination of accounting and auditing experience. Subject matter expert of GAAP and accounting theory. Highly detail oriented and organized in work. Ability to meet assigned deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus. Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives and projects. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and with strong to advanced Excel skills. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.

PREFERRED: Master’s Degree in Accounting or related field. Highly desired CPA.
