Position Overview

At Hayden, Principals partner directly with clients to deliver strategic insight and solve complex business challenges. They are senior market access leaders who bring deep expertise in biopharma market access strategy and apply that expertise to the most complex client questions. They lead multiple consulting engagements, ensuring high-quality delivery aligned with client objectives while managing team performance and project outcomes. In addition to overseeing delivery, Principals play a critical role in growing the business by developing new client relationships, expanding existing accounts, and personally owning revenue generation against an annual individual target, including originating, expanding, and closing client work. They are also expected to shape the firm by advancing thought leadership, building new capabilities, and driving innovative approaches to client work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior client stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor on complex business challenges
  • Own and grow client accounts, with accountability for expanding engagements, generating revenue, and meeting or exceeding an established annual individual revenue target
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for client satisfaction, engagement quality, and long-term partnership growth
  • Independently identify, originate, and close new business opportunities across existing and prospective clients, with clear ownership of pipeline development, conversion, and revenue contribution
  • Lead proposal development, shaping scope, approach, and pricing to meet client needs and firm growth objectives
  • Drive ongoing client engagement, identifying opportunities for continued partnership and account growthRemain current on industry, client, and competitive trends to proactively identify emerging challenges and opportunities, particularly across market access, pricing, reimbursement, payer dynamics, and the evolving biopharma landscape
  • Bring deep market access expertise to client development and delivery, including the ability to frame and solve strategic questions related to access, pricing, reimbursement, payer strategy, launch/access planning, and related commercialization challenges
  • Maintain a healthy business development pipeline and provide appropriate visibility into opportunities, timing, probability, and expected revenue
  • Provide strategic oversight across multiple concurrent engagements, maintaining accountability for delivery quality, client satisfaction, and financial performance while ensuring recommendations reflect strong market access judgment and commercial relevance
  • Effectively manage resourcing, team structure, and timelines to achieve target margin and profitability
  • Guide teams in developing clear, decision-ready outputs that address key client questions and drive decision-making
  • Ensure alignment between project work, client expectations, and overall engagement objectives

Firm Leadership & Thought Leadership

  • Lead and drive thought leadership and the development of new capabilities, approaches, and offerings that strengthen Hayden’s market access expertise and differentiation
  • Drive the visibility and market presence of Hayden within the BioPharma space
  • Lead and contribute to firm initiatives, including performance review processes and broader organizational priorities
  • Play an active role in shaping firm strategy and practice area growth, including growth of Hayden’s market access capabilities and client portfolio
  • Engage in recruitment and selection of new staff

People Management

  • Mentor and develop junior staff, contributing to performance management, career development, and overall talent growth within the firm
  • Oversee performance management, providing timely and specific feedback, identifying development needs, and delivering coaching and training
  • Facilitate team reflection and drive the application of insights to support continuous improvement
  • Model Hayden’s core values to help shape an inclusive, high-ownership, growth-mindset culture
Who You Are
  • A seasoned market access strategist with deep experience advising biopharma clients on complex access, pricing, reimbursement, payer, and commercialization questions
  • Distills complex information into clear, actionable recommendations that address client needs and drive meaningful outcomes
  • Builds and owns senior client relationships as a trusted advisor, proactively identifying opportunities to expand work and address evolving business challenges
  • Operates with a commercial ownership mindset, with a demonstrated ability to originate and close work, grow accounts, build pipeline, and deliver against an individual revenue target
  • Looks beyond the immediate ask to proactively develop new approaches, strengthen capabilities, and expand the impact of client work
  • Effectively manages priorities, people, and resources to deliver high-quality work
  • Navigates uncertainty with adaptability, curiosity, and a forward-thinking perspective in a changing client and industry landscape
  • Creates an environment where teams are engaged, supported, and empowered to do their best work
  • Invests in the growth of others through mentorship, feedback, and shared expertise
  • Contributes to the firm by driving its growth, sharing perspectives, and strengthening Hayden’s presence in the market
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive professional experience in life sciences consulting and/or the biopharma industry, including substantial market access experience, with evidence of career progression and demonstrated success in business development and client relationship ownership
  • Demonstrated market access expertise, with experience advising biopharma clients on topics such as pricing, reimbursement, payer strategy, access strategy, launch/access planning, and/or related commercialization challenges
  • Demonstrated track record of revenue generation, including originating and closing new work, expanding existing accounts, and meeting or exceeding an individual revenue or sales target
  • Strong academic track record including minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent, MBA or relevant graduate degree preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to the life sciences and healthcare industries, with strong knowledge of the biopharma market and market access environment
  • A track record of management, leadership and people development
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional literacy in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in analytics, analytical approaches, and how to interpret and enhance data analytics created by junior staff
  • A willingness or ability to travel as needed (10-20% on average)

The compensation range for this role is $220,000-$297,000, inclusive of base salary and target performance incentives, with additional upside opportunities available. Performance incentives for this Principal role are tied, in part, to achievement of individual revenue generation expectations and broader firm performance.
