Job summary

Exelon is seeking a Senior Underground Transmission Engineer in the Washington, DC area. You will develop and lead studies, designs, and analyses for transmission and distribution facilities, providing technical recommendations to support company decisions and regulatory filings.

The role requires a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and a Professional Engineer license, with 8+ years of Underground Transmission experience.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering and PE licensure.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • 8+ years of Underground Transmission engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of regulations, guides, standards, codes, and advanced engineering principles.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer status (license must be issued by the practicing state).

Primary Purpose

Develops and/or leads teams in studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets, associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas, and telecommunication facilities/systems. Provides consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers as a result of studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, vehicles or facilities. Reviews financial data from budget and actual costs of projects. Provides technical expertise to strategic, legislative and operational decisions. Acts as recognized technical authority in a specialized UG Transmission engineering area which may involve witnessing of Factory Acceptance Tests. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs consultation and training on highly complex and unique technical areas requiring the application of advanced Underground Transmission engineering principles.
  • Evaluates complex technical issues that require highly specialized knowledge in very specific areas and recommends actions or programs for their resolution.
  • Leads the implementation of large specialized Underground Transmission Engineering technical projects and/or teams in order to develop studies, proposals and designs while considering cost effectiveness.
  • Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in Underground Transmission Engineering area of company interest.
  • Participates in department planning, through field/site walkdowns, attends meetings/conference calls, provide budget recommendations and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
  • Acts as an expert witness and provide expert opinions for regulatory and/or legal proceedings for Underground Transmission engineering
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in Underground Transmission Design
  • Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to other Underground Transmission Engineers.

  • Applies Underground Transmission Engineering technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction
Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Knowledge of Underground Transmission engineering designs, principles and practices.
  • 8+ years of experience in specific areas of Underground Transmission engineering and recognized industry expert (Requirement reduced by one year for Licensed Professional Engineer)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of latest technologies necessary to perform a variety of specialized unique or complex assignments for various installation types of Underground Transmission engineering services.
  • Industry expert who participates or leads industry committee or working groups or has published technical documents
  • Note: there are a limited number of personnel available in the industry with the required knowledge, ability and experience. License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing

  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all management levels.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the work activity of others.
  • MS degree in Civil Engineering (1) and Licensed Professional Engineer (2) (3) Industry expert who participates or leads industry committees or working groups or has published technical documents.
  • Experience with UG Transmission cable design, maintenance, and construction practices.
