Job summary

Transmission & Distribution World is seeking an experienced Senior Underground Transmission Engineer (PE) to lead studies, designs and evaluations for critical transmission assets. You will mentor engineers, support regulatory matters, and drive cost-effective project execution.

The role requires a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and a state PE license, with 8+ years of UG transmission experience and strong knowledge of codes, standards and industry practices.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Knowledge of Underground Transmission engineering designs, principles and practices.
  • 8+ years of experience in Underground Transmission engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles.
  • Industry expert who participates or leads industry committees or has published technical documents.
  • License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing.

Responsibilities

  • Performs consultation and training on highly complex Underground Transmission engineering areas requiring the application of advanced Underground Transmission engineering principles.
  • Evaluates complex technical issues that require highly specialized knowledge in very specific areas and recommends actions or programs for their resolution.
  • Leads the implementation of large specialized Underground Transmission Engineering projects and teams to develop studies, proposals and designs while considering cost effectiveness.
  • Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in Underground Transmission Engineering.
  • Participates in department planning, through field/site walkdowns, attends meetings, provides budget recommendations and monitors performance.
  • Acts as an expert witness and provides expert opinions for regulatory and/or legal proceedings for Underground Transmission engineering.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in Underground Transmission Design.
  • Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and guidance to other Underground Transmission Engineers.

Job description

Develops and/or leads teams in studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets, associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas, and telecommunication facilities/systems. Provides consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers as a result of studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, vehicles or facilities. Reviews financial data from budget and actual costs of projects. Provides technical expertise to strategic, legislative and operational decisions. Acts as recognized technical authority in a specialized UG Transmission engineering area which may involve witnessing of Factory Acceptance Tests. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

  • Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in Underground Transmission Engineering area of company interest.
  • Participates in department planning, through field/site walkdowns, attends meetings/conference calls, provide budget recommendations and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
  • Acts as an expert witness and provide expert opinions for regulatory and/or legal proceedings for Underground Transmission engineering
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in Underground Transmission Design
  • Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to other Underground Transmission Engineers.

  • Support/Lead employees and or contractors in the execution of plans developed to initially energize Underground Transmission Engineering assets of Underground customer equipment/systems and placed on system.
  • Set direction for the organization in regards to Underground Transmission Engineering technical issues.
  • Applies Underground Transmission Engineering technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • Knowledge of Underground Transmission engineering designs, principles and practices.
  • 8+ years of experience in specific areas of Underground Transmission engineering and recognized industry expert (Requirement reduced by one year for Licensed Professional Engineer)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of latest technologies necessary to perform a variety of specialized unique or complex assignments for various installation types of Underground Transmission engineering services.
  • Industry expert who participates or leads industry committee or working groups or has published technical documents
  • Note: there are a limited number of personnel available in the industry with the required knowledge, ability and experience. License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all management levels.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the work activity of others.
  • MS degree in Civil Engineering (1) and Licensed Professional Engineer (2) (3) Industry expert who participates or leads industry committees or working groups or has published technical documents.
  • Experience with UG Transmission cable design, maintenance, and construction practices.
