Job description

Congressional School seeks a Primary School Teaching Assistant for the 2025-2026 academic year, starting mid-September and continuing through the first half of the academic year. The position is a part time, salaried position, with hours 7:45am - 3:45pm. This position reports to the Director of Early Childhood & Primary School.

The Primary School Teaching Assistant will partner with the Primary Lead Teacher to plan and implement a curriculum that encourages each student to reach their full potential. The Assistant will also work to create a warm, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment in which each child is known, valued and loved. Qualified candidates will be knowledgeable about current research relevant to the learning needs of our children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with planning and implementation of age-appropriate curriculum for children
  • Employ a variety of teaching methods to ensure optimal learning for all students
  • Promote learning in the areas of social-emotional, language, cognitive and physical development
  • Partner with lead teacher in gathering information to share with parents about student development and performance
  • Aid in integrating meaningful and appropriate use of technology and STEM activities in the classroom
  • Exhibit a high level of engagement and enthusiasm throughout the day
  • Establish positive home/school partnership with each family in the classroom
  • Actively seek opportunities for professional development in early childhood education
  • Perform divisional responsibilities expected of faculty (including supervising students outside of class times, attending faculty meetings and school events, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
  • Two years of experience working with students in early childhood
  • Strong initiative and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment and a commitment to cultural competency
  • An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
