Primary Physical Education Teacher (Part-Time)

Position Overview
The Primary Physical Education Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing engaging physical education lessons that promote physical fitness, motor skill development, and a love of movement. They will create a safe and inclusive learning environment where all students can participate and succeed. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of child development, effective teaching strategies, and current best practices in physical education. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Lower School Physical Education during the day as well as coach a minimum of two athletic seasons in Secondary School.

Reports To : Heads of Lower School/ Early Learning Campus & Director of Athletics

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA or equivalent in Education, Physical Education (or related field)
  • Minimum of 5 years full-time teaching experience
  • Experience in a school environment or athletic related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and one of the school’s primary languages, French or Spanish
  • Head coaching experience
  • Master’s degree in education, Physical Education (or related field)
  • Certification in elementary physical education and/or related subject area
  • International and/or independent school experience
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated digital proficiency in current tools and platforms (electronic gradebooks, Learning Management Systems, online learning platforms, digital portfolios, AI assisted technology, etc.)
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends as needed

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria :

  • Possess excellent teaching skills and pedagogy
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of the application of interactive methodologies, technology integration and online learning software and/or platforms
  • Be well versed in current research and best practices in teaching and learning
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding within the classroom and curriculum
  • Create a positive learning environment that is rich in structure, developmentally appropriate and academically rigorous
  • Demonstrate understanding of, and commitment to, childhood social, emotional and intellectual development within an international school setting

Expectations:

  • Plan and instruct physical education classes daily that ensure progression of skill development which challenges students individually and as a group
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards
  • Develop and utilize assessment methods for measuring growth and achievement
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student growth and development
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners
  • Assess student learning, use data to adapt learning plans, and provide timely feedback
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively and consistently
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement best practices
  • Organize and maintain physical education equipment and uniforms
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation
  • Incorporate cultural elements into lessons and activities
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and concerns
  • Build strong relationships with parents and involve them in their child's education
  • Organize parent-teacher conferences and other opportunities for parent involvement
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in education
  • Attend and positively contribute to grade, faculty, division and all-school meetings as necessary
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, and other non-instructional times
  • Assist with school-wide initiatives and events
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures
  • Maintain regular school hours; some evening and weekend hours may be required when school is in session
  • Participate in the wider life of the school and be responsible for other duties as assigned such as special projects and presentations, school trips and service-learning activities as well as attending curriculum nights, conferences, open houses, and other school and parent events as needed

Coaching and/or Athletic Administrative Duties:

  • Coach a minimum of two sport seasons
  • Organize and conduct practices, conditioning programs and competitive events
  • Instruct with sound principles and expert skills in specified sport
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement at the team and individual level
  • Manage, monitor and comply with all athletic department policies and procedures
  • Promote the total athletic program and contribute to the wider life of the school including attending parent meetings, student presentations and admissions events
  • Complete all related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
